Greed and Ego in MLM Network Marketing:
A small hint for all those of you who have already read “Success in 10 steps“: At the bottom of page 11 of Success In 10 Steps, you see a reference to “greed and ego.” That gives you a good point to make with your prospects.
Prospects don’t come into this process thinking about “greed & ego”. But if they have experience in MLM, there’s a good chance they’ve already run into the problem. It’s worthwhile pointing out that the greed & ego of sponsors and/or companies is one of the reasons so many prospects are never successful in network marketing.
Let them know how important it is to have their radar up and operating sensitively. This doesn’t mean you search for some Pollyanna who lives their life only for others. Putting yourself first is the natural order.
What it does mean is that you MUST avoid sponsors whose goal is to be successful no matter who they have to step on. You want someone who is determined to be successful by creating those win-win relationships with others.
A lot of times, you can actually hear this in their voice and in what they say about the business and about others. One of these guys once told me that 95% of all prospects were dead wood, and he just kicked them out of the way. Not only was he proud of it, but he thought anyone who didn’t do that was a fool. What more could you possibly need to know about this guy?
It isn’t always that obvious. So you’ve got to watch and listen and train yourself to spot “greed & ego” before you join a company where you are smack-dab in the middle of it.
Your best bet is definitely to avoid it from the start. Once you are in a group dominated by the greed and/or ego of its leader(s), you are lost. It’s a situation you must train yourself to see and walk away from. This is the foundation of your business and therefore a matter of financial literacy. It’s the system that allows you to create true residual income or not. A system dominated by greed and ego won’t allow you to create true walk-away residual income.

A great take Oliver. The universe is like a backboard. Whatever we dish out comes back is some way shape or form. Be careful what you serve.
The things these greed and ego type sponors don’t realize is that they’re making things that much harder on themselves. When you discount 95% of people you must hustle that much more to grab the 5%. Backward logic.
I’m all for targeting but I’ve found more prospects and valuable contacts by treating each person I meet with respect. We’re all in this together. When you take care of someone, somebody else takes care of you.
Great insight!

This is a great article!!! I‘ve ever read. High educations give us more chance to get the better job but Experience is very important too. Many people who had high education but no experience often failed so “Learning by Doing” is the best way to succeed.

Hey Oliver,
Great post my friend
I think this is the biggest reason why many people fail in network marketing is because they simply just focus on themselves instead of having a cause that’s bigger than themselves.
All the best trainers out there today always talk about having a “why” for yourself and personally I think this is incredibly important. If your only reason to be in network marketing is just to make money I personally think that you are in the wrong industry all together. Your intent should be on helping people to succeed and helping them overcome their doubts about themselves by showing them that their freedom can be achieved via your opportunity + your training.
Great perspective Oliver! Keep up the good work

Hey Oliver,
I’ve been there with sponsors with big egos. Like you said stay clear of them.
The EGO is always saying: “what’s in it for me, what’s the bottom line?”
But your SOUL is always asking: “how may I help, how may I serve?”

Hi Gerald,
exactly. Reputation is key. It takes time and dedication to build it and only seconds to destroy it.
Thanks for your comment.

Awesome post, Oliver. The greatest set back in our industry is when people care more about themselves than they do about others. It’s been said that people don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care. This is so true. Greed & ego are both detrimental to the growth of any institution or organization.
Thanks for sharing.
