Hello everybody, in my last post I asked the question:”What other bad features are there in an MLM compensation plan ?”
Here are my humble answers:
1. You lose volume because you only get paid on your weak leg, for example.
2. You lose volume because you need to have a team of let’s say 10 people before you get paid the first $
3. You lose volume because you need to balance your legs. Chances are that you need theoretically a low amount of people to make these 5,000 $. I say “Theoretically” because this low number only exists in a perfect world. Once your legs aren’t balanced accordingly, the number of people you need explodes.
4. You need to fulfill certain recruiting and sales obligations in order for you to be eligible for commissions. This is also part of the Policies and Procedures – and that means you can never stop recruiting and/or selling. As I’m naturally lazy, very unfun, isn’t it ?
5. The compensation doesn’t encourage depth-building. According to the numbers, Network Marketers sponsor – on an average – 2.6 people into their business. I know, dear Red personality, that this is your hourly average, but you aren’t average. And you’re above-average performance is already aggregated in the average- that’s why it’s an average. So, as I know this number, I would rather work with a compensation that takes this number into account, even if I’m able to sponsor more people. Work with the numbers – or Sayonara.
Consider this:
Most people are part-timers or start at least as part-timers until they are able to fire their boss. If they lose volume in their pay plan, it takes them too long in order for them to break even (first step) and to make let’s say 500 $ (second step). If someone sees 500 $ (or even only 250 $) coming in – as residual income, monthly – do you think this person will ever quit ? What would that mean for your retention rate ?
We all know another number: 97 % of people fail in our awesome industry.
Considering that most people don’t have a clue about these numbers, that is not a coincidence. Some people even deny the truth when they’re looking right into the truth’s eyes.
They’re struggling, they don’t make a dime, they’re extremely busy at the end of the month because they don’t get money if they don’t fulfill certain obligations.
97 % of the people fail. That’s a lot of people. The internet won’t change that. The best product won’t change that. Only information and education can change that if you are willing to learn it and if you are coachable. You can either be successful in this business or be right, but not both.
So swallow your ego, your feelings of failure and guilt and look for help. If you want me to help you with these subjects (comp plan, policies and procedures etc.), let me know. Hey Oliver,
Great post and you make a great point education is the only way you will be able to even have a chance at success in this industry. That’s the same with life. People often times think just because it’s a business they are going to just magically get rich. No, it takes work, growth through learning, and a proven plan of action. Like this post man.

Hi Justin,
thanks for your thoughtful comment. I’m glad you talk about the time it takes to grow a business. If we want to become a dentist, we go to university for several years – and don’t make any money. If we start as network marketer, we think we can start making money from scratch without education. Doesn’t seem quite adequate.

Hi Oliver,
Most people are looking for the quick way to riches and are not willing to put in the time and effort it takes to learn a new skill.
I usually ask people, how would they feel if a doctor opened a practice without going to school for x amount of years. How successful do they think that doctor would be. It takes time to learn and develop skills that are needed to be successful in any business.
The best secret, learning how to automate leads.
