Financial Intelligence in MLM Network Marketing Pt. 12
The title might be a bit misleading because I don’t want to suggest anything that might get you into trouble ! That wouldn’t be very intelligent, financially. And I rather spend my life outside jail than in jail
So what’s this post about ?
If you are like most people chances are you have dreams and goals you don’t have the money for at the moment and/or the timing is not yet right, for whatever reason.
Unfortunately, most people simply put further debt on their credit card because they don’t understand the concept of delayed gratification and how to use this concept for long-lasting motivation.
The question: How can you do steps towards your goals without already spending the money you do not yet have ?
Most of us know Napoleon Hill’s recipe…and it’s a great starting point to start with strong desire. Once you have the desire and wrote your practical steps down, you start implementing your plan what usually means that you start working like crazy, and that’s OK.
But, have you ever had the feeling that you worked that much on the realisation of your dreams and goals, that you lost sight of them ?
At least, I had this feeling, especially if the gap between today and the future seemed to be pretty large.
So how can we close this gap practically – without spending money ?
The first step for me is of course, creating a vision board about my dreams and goals so that your subconscious is constantly flooded with nice pictures about your ideal lifestyle – and positive emotions.
What is the second step ?
Working like crazy ?
Yes, but…the trouble with working like crazy is that you might forget about your dreams and goals, you lose sight.
What I recommend, is doing some practical steps towards your goals.
For example, my dream is to live on Guernsey with my family by 2016. It’s a paradise on earth, in the English Channel between France and the UK, mild climate because of the gulf stream and all that good stuff.
The challenge is, property is extremely expensive on Guernsey.
So what were my practical steps to go ahead towards my goal ?
On Facebook, I came in contact with real estate agents from Guernsey and I subscribed to their newsletter and I get at least one offer per week directly into my inbox, amazing property at affordable prices around the amount of 1,000,000 GBP – a price we calculated anyway.
Then I thought: “What could I do next ?” We’re going to pass a three-week vacation on Guernsey in August this year. So I took the decision to call this real estate agency and to schedule an appointment. And guess what, it took me nearly three weeks from taking this decision to simply doing this phone call.
Resistance ! My little voices were nagging at me: “You can’t do that.” “Who do you think you are ?” and all that good stuff you might already be familiar with.
But I did it, and I had a great call with a nice woman – Karen – who advised me that we aren’t eligible for the local market, so we should rather look for open market property. OK, no problem.
And we have an appointment on August, 16th.
I was walking towards my goals without spending any money !
Doing so, is also an educational process. I build relationships with local people, get familiar with the local market. In this case, we need to double our figures because nice open market property starts at 2,000,000 GBP
– I learned this through one phone call.
My little voice was screaming and yelling as loud as it could !
“2,000,000 GBP, that’s too much, Oliver” Oh, that’s interesting little voice, does that mean that 1,000,000 GBP would have been OK ?
Karen sent me a great brochure about living on Guernsey and a whole bunch of houses (I’m now in the right e-mail list – for the open market) all starting around 2,000,000 GBP.
Amazing property !
My little voice was nearly killing me.
But through consistently following the path of what needs to be done – baby steps – I learn to control and to manage my little voice.
Achievement of goals and dreams – nothing more than little voice management ?
If that holds true, it’s important to do baby steps towards your goal that seem to be totally insignificant.
The question is, if these baby steps are really insignificant, why does the little voice scream so loud ?
Chances are the little voice knows exactly that these baby steps are very significant !
And that’s exactly why we need to do these baby steps.
It costs you nothing to shop. It’s about managing your little voice, connecting with people, educating yourself – and telling the universe that you are a serious person – by doing baby steps.
How do you I know I’m moving in the right direction ? I know and feel it because my little voices are very present from time to time, and I feel deeply motivated to follow through, it’s a motivation of the kind that I feel pulled towards my goals and dreams.
I’d love to hear your ideas and experiences about this because it’s about tapping into the concept of Creative Imagination according to Napoleon Hill !
What is your opinion ?
I always love your reaction, so please leave me a comment down below with questions, thoughts, or feedback.

Oliver: This is a great post for a couple of reasons…
First of all, you mention “baby steps” which is the same process that Jeff Olson talks about in “The Slight Edge”. While it’s important to have your ultimate goal in mind, that goal can also seem so daunting, overwhelming and unachievable that people do NOTHING instead of taking those baby steps you mention.
I’ve been a CPA for the past 20 years or so and I remember when I was sitting for the exam that we take in the States to become certified public accountants. The exam, at that time, was given over 2-1/2 days covering an incredible amount of information and I remember thinking, ‘I will NEVER remember everything I need to remember to pass this thing the first time!!” So instead of focusing on the enormity of the task, I broke it down into little sections that made it easier and less overwhelming for me to study and, I’m proud to say, I passed the exam the first time!!
The moral of my story is exactly what you’re talking about, Oliver: baby steps and my message is: Please, please, PLEASE everyone who’s interested in achieving financial freedom in MLM: start somewhere today doing one small thing that will help you achieve your goal and do those small things consistently over time; you’ll be amazed at how quickly you’ll be living on Guernsey along with Oliver!!

Hi Diane,
thanky you for your thoughtful and lengthy comment. It all comes down pretty much to the question: How you can you eat an elephant ? It’s obvious that all life on this planet started with the merger of two seperated cells ( OK, there are beings only consisting of one cell), and everybody knows that it takes 9 months until a new baby is ready to be born (but they’re not ready to live without constant care of their parents). It takes years and years to raise and educate them ! What we take for granted in the normal cycle of life, we seem to forget in other areas of our lives. We become more and more impatient and wait for the big leap. Is the moment of birth of a baby the big leap ? If you ignore the fact that it started with the merger of two separated cells, probably yes. But if you take the whole process into account ?
I really appreciate your encouragement and I also harbour more and more confidence in myself after having done these baby steps which nevertheless caused my little voices to scream very loudly !
Take care
Oliver

Oliver,
This is one of the more thorough posts which I’ve read dealing with blockages and that “little voice” which we contend with on a daily basis. Well Done!
As for Guernsey I hear that it’s beautiful there! My mom was born in the Black Forest and lived there until she was 5 so she periodically traveled back to Europe to visit different locations. She always spoke of Guernsey and how gorgeous it is with the mild climate but I hadn’t heard of it until reading your post today. So cool
I am sure that you will live there because you have it in mind now, and the thought is the seed of the thing. You have been watering the seed with acts of faith. It’s growing Oliver, can’t wait to see you there

HI Ryan,
amazing that your mom is from Germany. And guess what, we’re not living far away from Black Forest. Depending on where your mother was exactly born, chances are it’s only a 30 minute-drive from Tübingen where I live (up to 2 hrs). And yes, I think also doing these little steps has something got to do with faith, practical faith. Thanks for your encoragement and your great comment.
Take care

Great post Oliver!
In “Linchpin” Seth Godin devotes an entire chapter to “the resistance” which he also calls the “lizard brain” and it is that little voice you spoke of. Seth says the louder it gets, the more you know you are on the right track! So keep taking those steps Oliver because the Universe knows you are on the right path!

Hello Oliver
I love vision boards as a reminder of why I am doing what I am doing.
However, you are taking it to a new level.
Great idea to actually take the steps to find out more information about your dreams. Finding out the exact price and type of property to look for must create excitement for you.

Hi Peter,
thanks for your comment. Probably it’s really the next level. Were my little voices whining because the leap was too large ? First of all it’s about the information about the market, and secondly it’s about building relationships to real estate professionals in this hot market. If you spend 2,000,000 pounds, you want to trust the salesperson…so this baby step helped my little voices to realise that we’re not jumping but putting one foot in front of the other.
Take care

You know what Oliver, you are heading in the right direction with this. Although it may be pricey now, but at least you are taking the necessary steps towards your dreams. A lot of people remain stagnant and let their dreams slip away. Thanks for sharing!!!!
