Little Voice Mastery: Have you ever heard of Blair Singer ?
He’s sales trainer, book author and Rich Dad advisor. I first heard of him when I started my Rich Dad coaching programme last year. In the coaching programme, I liked his contribution to the subject of sales.
He compares different types of dogs with different types of salespeople and concludes that every type has the potential of becoming a successful salesperson.
He also talked about the “Little Voice” inside of us, which is actually really little but which wants to keep us small if we allow it.
And I said to myself:”Yes, I have that Little Voice, too.”
Watch this video in order to learn what I allow my Little Voice to do with me, from time to time:
Blair Singer wrote this book called “Little Voice mastery” and it offers amazing tips to manage our little voices.
I find it refreshing that he writes about his own little voices in a very open and honest way – these are the paragraphs where I couldn’t help but laughing because I realized:”That’s me, that’s me. I also have several little voices. I’m not alone, I’m normal !”
I think admitting that we have little voices that tend to hold us back if give them the power to do so, is the first step of managing them.
Blair Singer thinks we can’t get rid of them, but we can manage them. We are the boss of our little voices !
He offers a great variety of tools to manage it in every situation. Our responsibility is to recognize that we allowed this choir of little voices to control us on auto-pilot.
I recommend this book ( and a CD set that’s also available) to every person serious about their personal development.

Hi Oliver,
I love this topic! Thanks for sharing the book with us. I like how you described it as a battle occurring between the ears
I have the little voice battle going on moment to moment during some days. Admitting this inner fight is a freeing experience because acknowledging the fight is the first step in going about lessening it.

Oliver we all have those times of self doubt and worry. This is so true that a lot of it is our inner voice of doubt making the situation worse than it is. It is quite a level of self mastery when you can turn those voices off and move forward. Side note it probably would help not to answer them back in public.;)

Hi Steve,
thanks for your comment. If I understood Blair Singer correctly, he does scold his little voices sometimes in the public if there’s no other way to master them

Thanks for the advice about the book. I’ll get hold of a copy. You are right I think that the voices will always be there but we don’t have to listen. Mind you , like Steve says, better not to talk to the voice in public!

And it might be a good idea to listen to the little voice in order to learn from what source it originates. That’s part of the little voice management process. But we don’t need to follow it and we don’t need to let it do our thinking and feelings.
thanks for your comment. I’m always happy if I can give tips to people

I smiled when I heard you say that you were more nervous when you should make your first video in your own language. My language is Danish and I feel it easy to speak and make video in Engelse, but VERY difficult in Danish.

Hi Oliver
I know Blair Singer very well and have known him for 20 years. We promoted Blair in Australia and I have personally worked with him. He is a brilliant facilitator, in fact I would say one of the best I have worked with.
The book is excellent.
I love seeing you on video Oliver.
Have a great day.

Hi Oliver,
I am familiar with Blair Singer but did not know about this book so thank you for sharing this information with me.
I always used to feel so bad that I had the little voice battle going on in my head but then I realized it would be far worse if I was not aware of them, so in denial so to speak.
As you say when we shine light on something we can see and deal with it, until then it has total power over us.

Hi Marcus,
he seems to be more known for his book “Sales Dogs” than for that one. Anyway, it’s great.
What we know or what we are aware of, can’t really hurt us, right ?
Thanks for comment.

Hi Oliver,
I have this book too, and it’s a great book. I bought it while attending a Rich Dad event in Sydney.
And yes, it is very crucial to master that little voice that always questions your actions. Sometimes it does keep things in check, but most of the time, it wants to tell you that you’re not worth it, or you might hurt yourself, or what will others think?
It can literally be crippling if we don’t get on top of it.
Thanks for the thoughts,

Hi Wayne,
little voice management is about answering the question:”Who is the master and who is the slave ?” Failing to answer this question means abandoning power and becoming slave of our little voices.
Thanks for your comment.

Hi Oliver,
I have never heard of this book before and I will be adding it to my reading list. I love your honesty and sense of humor about your little voice, and goodness knows I’ve got my little voices too. I guess as you say, I can’t make her be quiet, but hopefully with practice, I can learn to manage her. Overall, I think this past year, or these past 6 months really, I’ve done a good job of showing her who is boss, but really, there’s always things that I’m holding back from or could do a little bit more confidently. Great video!

Hi Heather,
thanks for your appreciative comment. The little voices – mine at least – detest honesty, that’s why I’m fighting them with honesty
It’s like holy water and the devil…
They tend to deny themselves and try to sell you that they’re not existent.
Congratulations: It’s really important to make very clear who’s the boss.

Hi Oliver
Great post. here’s some thoughts. Yes, life’s an inner game. Everything hinges on the self, so self mastery is the key. As humans, we’re given the ability to think at a higher level. Unfortunately, we don’t. At least not in the way we were designed to. For many, ‘free will’ or ‘free thinking’ is just their belief system in disguise… that little voice again!
For many changing that little voice is hard as it goes directly against their belief system – just like the elephant pulling on the stake. No matter how hard they pull, there’s the illusion of something holding them back. The harder they pull, they more they reinforce the existing belief. Then their feelings come back to bite them… and their is that little voice again.
Self-mastery broadens the core, allowing a different inner voice message to surface. When we become more of our-self, we need less. And the control is in letting go of the control. Trying to control only reinforces what we’re trying to escape from. Your words remind me of the Tao; “true sayings seem contradictory. Act by not acting. Do by not doing. The master accomplishes much without doing”. Know thyself, that’s the key. I’ve created a programme around that, it may be of interest.

Hi Des,
thanks for your thoughtful comment. You hit the nail on its head when noting that free thinking is only their belief system in disguise, well said.
I also second you on the fact that trying or pulling harder only reinforces the existing belief.
Thanks for adding tremendous value to the discussion.
Take care
