“Why do people quit their MLM Network Marketing businesses ?” was the question I asked yesterday and I described my own example of quitting a business in order to save something more valuable – my dream, my purpose, my WHY.

For my first post on this series, I was selected as “Weekly Featured Tribe Member” in Jordan Schultz’s MLM Global Mastermind Tribe on Facebook. You may want to watch my “Thank you”-video below.

The ability to take a decision – especially a critical one – requires orientation: Where am I today and where do I want to go – and very important: how ?

With “how ?” I don’t mean that you need very detailed plans from the very beginning, but you need to take a decision which price you want to pay.

And then pay it.

If you don’t take a conscious decision about the price you want to pay, chances are you need to pay a higher price or a price you never would pay voluntarily.

That doesn’t mean that you need to pay with love, health, relationships or blood, sweat and tears in exchange with the realization of your dreams.

I’m pretty sure that your dreams include love and health and wealth and harmony and piece of mind and freedom and their materialization, am I right ?

The price to pay is comittment to your true Self, to your purpose, to your dreams and to your WHY.

The price to pay is the promise to yourself to never quit your dreams, your why, your purpose, no matter what. Napoleon Hill calls that “definiteness of purpose” in his famous book “Think and Grow Rich”.

That commitment will give you orientation. It will give you strength of character when you need it badly.

It will give you the security that you don’t quit your ideal lifestyle if you change a vehicle. If the horse is dead, it is dead. Period.

How many of us are riding a dead horse with the hope to reach their destination ? I’m sure we all do that from time to time, myself included.

There’s nothing wrong with your hope, but look at your horse if it as able to carry you where you want to go. If not, make a change. If in doubt, ask a vet.

I’m trying to explain the anatomy of quitting and failing to myself in order to learn how to detect behavioural patterns in myself and others more easily that lead either to quitting
or to moving on.

If you sponsor a person in your business, you already know that this person will face situations of challenge, obstacles and feelings of wanting to quit.

So knowing how this person might behave in such situations, would certainly be an asset, wouldn’t it ?

Let me give you an example.

I recently read an email from a person whom I appreciate very much as a person and as a friend.

He wrote:”I’m chasing THIS dream…” and he may quit his business or not.

I cringed when reading that.

If this guy quits his business, he also quits (T)HIS dream, doesn’t he ?

He feels like chasing something he can’t relate to because he failed at figuring out his purpose, his WHY, HIS dream.

In this case, quitting is failing.

He might join another business, but if he doesn’t do his homework, odds are that he won’t do better at the new business.

If he does his homework, he will eventually succeed.

As he needs to do his homework anyway, why not doing it right now and sticking to the business he’s already building today ? If the business is healthy and not a dead horse, that provided. In this case, it’s a very good business.

Figuring out your WHY is simple because it’s already in you, it’s already there, like a rough diamond.

But you might find it not easy to find it, to figure it out, to write it down.

Chances are you need help with that. That’s OK to need help. It’s not OK needing help and not to ask for it or even refuse it.

So if you really need and want help, ask me. I can help with you that.

Being able to ask for help and to accept it gratefully is also part of personal development and emotional intelligence.

What is your opinion ?

I always love your feedback, so please leave me a comment down below with questions, thoughts, or feedback.

  4. Hi, Oliver. This is a great post! I really like the idea of distinguishing between the business and the dream. Sometimes businesses don’t work, and it’s not necessarily anyone’s fault. The trick is to be honest enough with one’s self to realize that is the case.

  5. I have a problem quitting. I usually just keep going just to make sure I don’t fail. However, I had to learn that sometimes you really should quit. Not everything makes sense to keep going at it if it really doesn’t work.

    Thanks for the reminder.

  7. Hi Oliver,

You have made a great post which focuses on the WHY people quit and give up on their dream. Quit for a business reason and only a business reason as you say with the horse. Thanks for sharing.

    Have a great day.

    Fantastic read Oliver!

Someone cannot fail until they give up on their dream. Quitting one opportunity to join another is just a means to obtain that dream, so quitting something is not failure.

And that is why it is so important to determine your “Why” before embarking on this journey.

  9. Great insights Oliver. It is sad how some people will not ask for help even when they are struggling. Or worse as you say, they refuse it. Pride, arrogance, fear of seeming like they don’t have all the answers? A mix of things I guess.

    Keep them coming, my friend.

Hi Oliver, You have touched on a great subject. I admire your commitment to your WHY and to your Dream. I fell off a great horse and I have yet to get back on it. I just read this amazing quote posted by one of your readers (Marcus Baker) “You may have a fresh start any moment you choose, for this thing that we call ‘failure’ is not the falling down, but the staying down.” Mary Pickford

I realize now more than ever that I do not have a compelling WHY, if at all.

I wish I was more like you Oliver and maybe, I should spend more quality time in you presence. Thank you for the insight.

    Hi Stephane,

thanks for your comment, my friend. I can’t tell you how grateful I am that you came across this post. And I am grateful how everything falls into place, that Marcus posted this quote and you read it on my blog. That’s cool. Universe looks kindly upon you, Stephane.

It’s great that you want to get back on your racing horse again – but you don’t need to do it alone, please, please don’t think that you need to do it alone. We’re there to help you with that, if necessary over and over again.

But you need to get started with your WHY, and you don’t need to do it alone either. Start with page 22 in the “Success in 10 steps” ebook, and then let’s talk.

Love me or hate me for that, but wishing you were more like me – simply be careful with that. It’s OK to admire certain qualities in someone else in order to learn for them, maybe 10 %, if ever. I do that, too.

Just remember Michael Dlouhy’s words:”You are perfect just who you are.” Perfect with all strenghts and weaknesses, failures, screw-ups and messes you may have created in your life.

Everything else plants the seed for the next struggle.

I appreciate that you would like to spend more quality time in my presence, OK, I could say, come to Germany :-) but you can spend quality time with me, through Social Media, my blog and our phone calls. It’s easy without buying a flight ticket.

Universe works always, if we’re thousand of miles away or not.

Simply don’t run away from your own Self.

And sooner or later, we will meet in person, and I’m already looking forward to that.

    Take care

  12. Great post Oliver when we can really figure out our why we have to see it’s not tied up in a particular business. But it’s really the sum of our true desires and principles and your right if we can really hold on to that it can see us through tough times.

  15. Milena says:

    Oliver,

For me, quitting on our own dream is worse than not having it at the first place.. If we decide to quit, its taking us way back, not to where we started, but even behind that – into place of desperation and it brings out all negative things from our inner being. Its very hard, almost impossible to start all over, to create the dream again with the same passion and optimism.. We all know that jumping from one business to another is nothing else but not having our goal in the right place. So as you wrote, it is crucial to do our homework, create concrete goal and than work towards it.

You are doing a great job, keep it up!
