In yesterday’s post I challenged you with a couple of questions regarding your belief system towards money.

The first comments are being made in the moment of writing, thank you for that.

I want to lead by example and share with my answers to these questions beginning with question nr. 1:

What is part of my belief system about money regardless if they’re positive or negative ?

–> “It’s better to be poor and healthy than being rich and sick.”
–> “Now you’re also belonging to the rich because you’re driving a car worth more than 100,000 marks.” (said nearly 7 years after the abolition of the D-mark and the introduction of the €)
–> “This guy’s a billionaire, he can’t be honest…”
–> I only knew active, earned income, had no idea of passive income and so I only worked for earned income
–> I focused rather on the work than the outcome.
–> “I can’t do anything else than my current profession.” (which used to be a profession as self-employed financial consultant)
–> “Don’t soar, always stay ‘grounded’” (don’t know a better translation)
–> “I don’t want my income to be depending on the efforts of others.”
–> If there was a son or daughter of rich parents, we used to say:”He/she is son/daughter of profession.”
–> “Money spoils character.”
–> “I’m not worth being rich. I don’t deserve it.”
–> “I’m not money savvy.”
–> “I’m not good enough in order for myself to be rich.”
–> “Your brother is hardly earning the amount of money you are paying for your rent.”
–> “Money rules the world.”
–> The fear of going broke terrified me beyond reason.

OK, that should be enough. Most of these sentences were silently dormant in my subconscious until I challenged them through personal development.

It was not an easy ride, my own demons around the subject of money refused to go without causing me physical pain.

I had a major breakthrough last week – and my whole body is aching, yet my mind is fully present and I feel connected with the universe and my readers when writing that.

I know that there is no alternative.

I’m willing to do everything it takes to own my life.

In upcoming posts, I’m going to process your ideas and describe how I handled my beliefs, how I turned them in to positive beliefs.

What is your opinion ? I always love your feedback, so please leave me a comment down below with questions, thoughts, or feedback. And (yes, here’s my call to action) please share this post with your Twitter and Facebook friends by clicking on the share buttons below. I appreciate you telling others.

To a prosperous life,

  1. Hey Oliver,

Yea we all have these misconception of money. Here were some of mine.

Money is the root of all evil
    The rich are all crooked
You have to be born with a silver spoon in your mouth to be successful
    He/She is just lucky
    The rich are uppidity(conceited)
The rich are here to take advantage of the poor
Put your money in a savings account and save like crazy
If you do it yourself, you’ll become successful

Sometimes I still struggle with these misconceptions. That’s why I still dedicate myself to personal development!

    Thanks for sharing Oliver!!

    Hi Sherman,

it’s simply amazing that we in Germany heard pretty much the same stuff than you in the US and other folks in the UK or Australia/New Zealand ! Your items are really “good”, they go very deep, so if you are able to cope with them through personal development, you’re going to unleash amazing money energy and money power. Am I right that most of them come from a thinking or feeling of lack ? Money is scarce, so the rich have to take it from the poor ? Just an idea !

In any case, I appreciate your inspiring comment !

    Take care

Wow, glad to see I’m not the ONLY one with unhealthy and incorrect perceptions about money…

My perceptions were very much rooted in my childhood; my parents were consumers and not savers, they had no idea what residual income was and when my father dies several years ago, he left my mother with a very small pension and Social Security which she struggles to live on to this day.

I swore to myself that I would never allow this to happen to me and as a result, I had to teach myself that money is NOT the root of all evil and that the acquisition of this commodity isn’t a bad thing, depending on how we use it. Money is a tool and should be used as such; to chase money for the sake of acquiring lots of it and hording it is a dangerous thing but that’s just my opinion…:)

Thanks, Oliver, for another thought provoking post.

    Hi Diane,

thanks for sharing your story. We all are filled with misconceptions about money, and even if we are able to handle them adequately, they may pop up again. So it’s pretty much important to define a powerful WHY, a purpose and it’s OK to start with the rejection of something, a “hate”, for example “I hate to be poor.” or “I hate to be stuck in the Corporate Rat Race.”. But it’s extremely important to turn that “hate”, that rejection into something positive. Then you have a powerful purpose, a true passion you can DESIRE.

“Think and grow rich” and Mentoring for Free’s “Mental Cleanse” are great tools to do that homework !

  3. hi Oliver

a few negative thoughts come to mind:
    filthy rich
    you can’t have it all
some people have all the luck

It’s amazing what still hides in our subconscious mind. But even when we have rooted it out of ourselves, we have to shield against this stuff still coming from everyone around us.

    Hi Charlie,
thanks for sharing your “beliefs” They sound pretty familiar to me, espcecially “You can’t have it all.” – that’s a “good” one ;-)

What is “all” ? I don’t want to have it all. I don’t want to become as famous as Madonna, as handsome as James Bond and as rich as Bill Gates. That starts with the decision that I wouldn’t be willing to pay Madonna’s price, for example. And I’m grateful that I wasn’t obliged to pay her price, for example that my mother didn’t die at the age of 5.

But I can have everything that I desire and that is important to me and I can imagine and visualize – including plenty of love, health, wealth and gratitude. And so can you !

    Take care

    Hey Oliver, great post.

Getting rid of negative thoughts when it comes to money is not always easy, sometime it creeps back into my psyche.

Most people in this world want more. More happiness, more health, more material things, more time to enjoy life.

Have a healthy relationship with money and these things will come.

    Hi Peter,
thanks for your comment. I think it’s OK to want more. Creation doesn’t stand still and most probably never will, and if mankind didn’t want to have “more”, we still would live in caves and we would never have met, imagine what a tragedy ;-) ! So I agree with you that it’s about having a healthy relationships with everything physical or spiritual in our lives, first of all with ourselves. And I think these healthy relationships are based on love and gratitude, stay tuned for today’s post that is going to be published in a couple of minutes – while you’re still sleeping.

  5. Oliver you have struck a match great post man and great comments. Here are some things that come to mind.

    1. You have to have the right contacts.
    2. I am not outgoing enough to make them.
    3. Nobody from my family could ever be rich.
    4. They obviously went to the best schools and got the best education.
    5. I don’t have the drive.

Wow that was therapeutic great job.

    Hi Steve,

these points made me chuckle (not to blame you of course, on the contrary) but because I can hear well-meaning folks saying that to me, exactly the same words – in German ! These are some of these self-evident truths nobody dares to contradict, at least not as a child.

Do you know how elephants are elevated in order for them to stay at their place ? As young elephants they are tied with an extremely powerful rope – they have no chance to escape but they try it over and over again until they know for sure: “I can’t escape.” Then, as they are grown up, an extremely light rope is sufficient in order to keep them where they are. They could escape easily – but they don’t TRY it any more. I think human beings have some things in common with elephants.

Thanks for sharing your items. And yes, money is a therapeutical subject, you are not alone, welcome to the club. Seems that a ot of childhood programming in our modern world is about money.

    Take care

Oliver: You make an interesting point when you say, “…I can hear well-meaning folks saying that to me, exactly the same words…”

I think those “well-meaning” folks think they’re doing us a favor by uttering these remarks to us so we don’t get our hopes up and think, “I really can become wealthy, with the proper mindset”.

Most of us would agree that at least a portion if not all of these “well-meaning” people have not achieved their own success and that’s why they tell us these things: they don’t want us to achieve something that they themselves have been unwilling or unable to achieve.
