Let’s continue with the major social media sites I’m part of: Linkedin and YouTube and – of course – invite you to visit them and follow and/or add me as a friend or contact.

In my previous post, I dealt with my strategies on Facebook and Twitter.

Just let me repeat that my social media efforts are pretty much designed to attract targeted traffic to my blog.

So let’s go ahead:

3. Linkedin

Linkedin is an amazing site containing a lot of features I haven’t used completely yet.

On Linkedin, there is way less noise than on Facebook.

It has very sophisticated search options, there are groups, you can ask and answer question, you can share your blog and your favourite books, your Twitter and you can ask people for referrals and refer other people.

If Facebook is a party, then Linkedin is a club.

I’m constantly growing my contacts on Linkedin by adding people from Facebook, Twitter and the German social network XING and I use it also to attract people to my blog.

On the other hand, I also generate leads directly from Linkedin, especially MLM groups.

You can update your Linkedin status by Ping.fm and Tweetdeck. I’m sharing my blog posts, new videos and inspirational quotes for example.

On Linkedin, I’m still a baby ;-)

Feel free to send me a contact request on Oliver Tausend’s profile on Linkedin.

4. Video marketing on YouTube

There are people who prefer to read – for them a blog is great.

And there are people who rather watch a video.

Of course, there are people who like both.

The good news is: You can serve any of them.

Video isn’t video.

You can shoot a video of yourself sitting in front of your computer and talking.

You can do a tutorial your audience might be interested in, either as screencast or slide show.

You can even do text videos so that the viewer reads your stuff and listens to it at the same time.

And you can share your videos from YouTube everywhere on Social Media: Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin and of course your blog and embed then in blog posts.

That means: As there are so many different types of videos, let me tell you that the sentence “I can’t do videos.” is nothing more than an excuse.

Learn how to deal with procrastination in video marketing.

Please subscribe to Oliver Tausend’s YouTube channel and add me as a friend.

YouTube is awesome, looking forward to seeing you there !

Conclusion

Above, I mentioned and described my main social media sites.

I have also profiles on MySpace, FriendFeed, Google and not to forget social bookmarking sites like DIGG, Stumbleupon and Delicious.

They complement my main social media strategy that consists of my blog, Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin and YouTube.

A great way to show people all your social media sites at one glance is XeeSM – your business card on the internet. The video shown was mentioned in the XeeSM newsletter to its customers.

On Oliver Tausend’s XeeSM, you see all my social sites.

A word of caution

You read this post, and I don’t know where you are at the moment. Are you a beginner, intermediate social media user or already very sophisticated ?

I’m always very open to feedback from people of every walk of social media life :-) because I still consider myself being at the beginning of a steep learning curve – and that’s amazing.

If you read this post as a beginner, I would suggest not to become overwhelmed by all this information.

Start with one, maybe two sites, for example Facebook and Twitter. Master these sites and then go ahead. You can do nearly everything with Facebook, some kind of blogging, video etc.

OK, you’re account can be shut down.

Anyway, creating your own blog is hard work and it takes consistent effort over time.

There’s nothing wrong with that.

Once you master Facebook easily and consistently, then go ahead and conquer other social media sites and the world of blogging.

If you have any questions, or suggestions, if you feel stuck in your strategy, overwhelmed – please ask me or download the free free MLM ebook “Success in 10 steps” in order to learn more.

Of course, don’t forget to get free updates from this blog directly delivered to your inbox, if you think that you can learn something from me, for free of course.

What is your opinion ?

I always love your reaction, so please leave me a comment down below with questions, thoughts, or feedback.

And (yes, here’s my call to action) please share this post with your Twitter and Facebook friends by clicking on the share buttons.

I appreciate you telling others.

To a prosperous life,

Oliver Tausend

You provide excellent advice in the Conclusion section Oliver.

Social networking can be overwhelming to someone new to the online arena. Focus on one site and when comfortable with it add more.

I haven’t used linkedin much but have taken to youtube nicely over the past 3 weeks. I enjoy it and seem to be generating interest rather quickly. I shoot at least a few videos a day and network with like-minded people. The more quality videos uploaded the more people will find you.

    Thanks for sharing your insight.

  5. hi Oliver

the information about LinkedIn is very helpful as I have not yet taken advantage of that site though I have a rather dormant profile there.

Facebook presents the challenge of putting forward a really professional image among the dross and pitching that goes on there. I find my group there helps me in this way. And of course building relationships, not simply pushing things at people. Yes, it may be a slower process than some people want, but this industry is about building people and with 5 or 6 first class leaders in your team you can be very successful

    Hi Charlie,
you are absolutely right, if everybody on Facebook pitches like crazy, you have the opportunity to stand out of the crowd by refraining from pitching people. It may take a little bit more time, bit it will be sustainable. Thanks for adding your thoughts to this subject matter.
    Cheers

  6. Oliver some real value here in regards to social media. Linked In is not a sight I have really done any work on but I know it is a great place to connect and get the right kind of leads. Your right if facebook is a party linked in is a club it seems very professional and formal which is great. Great advice for someone starting it does do one well not to try to do to much all at once but to move on when they are comfortable with their present projects.

    Hi Steve,
thanks for your comment. On of the main advantages of Linkedin compared to Facebook is that on Linkedin there is less noise than on Facebook. And everybody is on Linkedin to connect on a business level. On the other hand, it isn’t too formal. Looking forward to meet you there.

Oliver: As always, you’re right on point…

As you correctly point out, if you’re just beginning, it’s probably best not to try everything at once and spread yourself too thin…it takes a LOT of time to maintain content on all of these sites AND your blog, if you have one…best to start out slowly and master one form of media before moving onto or adding another to your arsenal.

The great thing is there’s something for everyone; videos for those who are visual in nature, written content for those who need to have everything in writing…

    Oliver Reply:

    Hi Diane,
thanks for your comment. Especially blogging is a lot of work, it’s fun and rewarding of course but you need to invest a lot of time and effort. If you are short on time, you’re probably better off to start with video and use YouTube as video blog. OK, it’s not your property, but a great point to start. Once you start your iwn blog, you can embed your videos into your blog posts and thus “recycle” them – in a positive way of course ;-)
    Cheers

    Hey Oliver,

the more you go with these strategies, the
better it will be for you in the long term, plus
there will always appear new ones that you
definitely want to grab as well.

It´s been pretty fascinating and astonishing
how these “little bookmarking sites” or other
social networking sites have been working
out in the last couple of weeks and months.

Be consistent, be persistent, and keep doing it!

    Keep going,

    Gerald
