I’m starting a new series about my personal lessons I’m taking from Napoleon Hill’s “Think and grow rich”. Chapter by chapter, I’m going to publish my lessons every Wednesday.

Why every Wednesday ? Well, I’m part of a mastermind group doing the “Mental Cleanse”. That means we’re reading “Think and grow rich” together, chapter by chapter, week by week. After reading one chapter, we send our lesson plans to our mentor Michael Dlouhy. He reads all of them, picks 4 or 5 that are different from each other (not better than the others) and the author reads his or her lesson plan on the weekly conference calls on Wednesdays at 3 PM US Eastern Time (or 8 PM Eastern Time). I’m on the 3 PM call.

After reading the individual lesson plan, we are openly and freely discussing this lesson plan and our own thoughts and feelings towards this chapter.

Of course, participation is key but no one is forced to send lessons plans or to speak up. These conference calls are a place of complete safety to speak up, a sanctuary where people from all over the world and all walks of life are masterminding together.

As “Think and grow rich” doesn’t need to be read like a novel from the beginning to the end, anyone can jump on the call anytime, regardless of the chapter we’re actually at.

Today we happen to start with chapter 1 “Introduction” – so I’m going to share with you 15 lessons plans, one every Wednesday. I have done this Mental Cleanse already once so it’s highly interesting to review my transformation.

CHAPTER 1 INTRODUCTION “THE MAN WHO THOUGHT HIS WAY INTO PARTNERSHIP WITH THOMAS A. EDISON or: The two Michaels

“Thoughts are things”, I read these words four months ago and I wasn’t really able to relate to them.

Burning desire” and “definite major purpose” – was that what other people who know me called “greed”, “narrow-mindedness” or “extreme behaviour” in reality my burning desire and my definite major purpose ? Did I simply believe them and not myself and my burning desire ? Did I allow others to talk me out of the deal because they only wanted to protect themselves under the cloak of wanting to protect me ?

If so, does that mean I’m already in possession of everything it takes to own my life, that I simply know what I want and that I am determined to stand by that desire until I realize it ? Just like Barnes ?

Does that mean, I already have everything it takes but I simply didn’t know it or didn’t allow it to happen in my thoughts and physical reality ?

Questions, questions.

And the answer is “Yes !”

When I started my first “Mental Cleanse” four months ago, I was unable to sit down still in front of my computer and do nothing for these 60 or 75 minutes. I was multi-tasking like crazy, checking emails, playing around with Facebook and all that good stuff.

I sent one lesson plan at the beginning and Michael didn’t pick it – and I decided that he doesn’t like me ;-) So I didn’t send another one and justified it with “You’re not a native speaker. No wonder your lesson plan wasn’t picked.”

For the very same reason, I was afraid of speaking up on the call, at least at the beginning.

Some strange force however made me follow through, I was on each of the Mental Cleanse calls, I even missed two German matches during the Soccer world cup, one of which was the lost semi-finale match against Spain. Of course, I checked the score during the call ;-)

I didn’t manage to read every chapter, I missed perhaps two or three of them because I had so much important stuff on the plate. Really ? Certainly not, but I was on all the calls.

This consistency helped me to gain confidence throughout this process of transformation. I got calmer, I was able to let go of my multi-tasking and sit still in front of my computer and simply dive into the sea of vibrations and higher energy created by the mastermind group.

In a bright moment, I spoke up and said something – and Michael recognized it and appreciated my contribution very much. I was so proud, unbelievable, just like the little Oliver seeking for his Dad’s recognition – whose first name happens to be Michael as well. And they’re about the same age.

Is it possible that my self-worth depends on the recognition of others, of my Dad for example or “Dad figures” like Michael ?

At least, I must say that I made my self-worth depending on other people’s recognition or the lack of it, perceived lack of course, because there is plenty of proof that my Dad loves me and is proud of me.

Some other strange force makes me forget that sometimes.

So I definitely can say that the Mental Cleanse helped me to remember that. It helped me to slow down the chatter in my mind and to realize who I really am and that I am already in possession of everything it takes to own my life.

I say “Thank you” to Michael and Linda and to the mastermind group for creating a safe place, a sanctuary, for personal development and personal growth.

I’m looking forward to my and other people’s aha-moments on this chapter and on the chapters to come.

OK, that’s my lesson plan for the introduction. Stay tuned for next week’s lesson plan about “Think and grow rich” chapter 2 “desire the starting point of all achievement”

P.P.S.: After the closing chapter 15 about outwitting the six ghosts of fear, a lot of readers were a bit sad that this series ended. So I decided to start all over again and to publish new lesson plans on this blog every week – I’m going to read them to you ! Here’s the first one: Think and grow rich – Oliver Tausend reads his lessons – Introduction

    Hey Oliver

    Great start to Chapter 1.

It all starts with a thought, and if you have a strong desire to transform that thought into action you will achieve it.

A couple years a go I reread Think and Grow Rich and produced a summary of each chapter that I periodically go back to for a refresher.

I am looking forward to this series.

    Hey Oliver,

Powerful realisations – “Am I already in possession of the things it takes to own my life?”

We multi task and easily distract ourselves because our minds are running on autopilot, with a million useless thoughts going through it at any given time. It’s what we’ve been conditioned to do with our modern weapons of mass communication.

When we empty our minds of these useless, mostly negative thoughts, we really discover who we are and what we’re capable of.

    Thanks for the inspiration,

    Hi Wayne,

thanks for your inspiring comment. Even if he had millions of useful thoughts, they would be useless because we wouldn’t able to process them. So calming down and and focusing on one good useful thought at a time is the way to go.

    Hi Sherman,

well, honestly, I needed to force myself to write weekly lessson plans – so publishing my lesson plans as blog posts is a trick to force my ego – my ego will keep its promise ;-)

And without masterminding, the book is pretty much worth nothing because being part of a mastermind is an essential part of his recipe. Most people try to do it on their own, S quadrant behaviour.

  18. hi Oliver

it is surprising how we still seek approval, even though we may think we are evolving and growing. But truly, as Michael says, it only matters what we think of ourselves – and that is not an ego thing about not caring about what others say. If someone tells us sincerely that we are on a wrong track, then we should listen.

But always we should live by what we believe and think without letting opinions worry us.

looking forward to this series of posts
