Previous lesson plan: Think And Grow Rich – Specialized Knowledge – Lessons From Chapter 5

In “Think and grow rich” Napoleon Hill writes at the beginning of this chapter:”The imagination is literally the workshop wherein are fashioned all plans created by man. The impulse, the DESIRE, is given shape, form, and ACTION through the aid of the imaginative faculty of the mind.”

What can we learn from this chapter for our MLM business and life ?

THINK AND GROW RICH CHAPTER 6 “IMAGINATION – THE WORKSHOP OF THE MIND” THE FIFTH STEP TOWARDS RICHES

“Intelligence is the ability to make finer distinctions.” This is a quote from Robert Kiyosaki – and how true is it. Just like I didn’t differentiate between belief and faith before I had read Napoleon Hills’s chapter about FAITH, I didn’t know anything about different types of imagination before I had read the chapter.

Napoleon Hill discriminates between SYNTHETIC IMAGINATION creating nothing and CREATIVE IMAGINATION allowing human beings to connect their limited minds with Infinite Intelligence.

The first one is merely a new arrangement of already existing thoughts, ideas, experiences. That’s not necessarily bad. For most people however, whose thinking is done automatically by past programming and by negative emotions, the new combination of old thought patterns won’t lead to different or even better results in their lives. The same old crap in different clothes.

It will only lead to improvement if we do our own thinking, if we have become critical thinkers.

Only in this state of mind our conscious mind will be “vibrating at an exceedingly rapid rate, for example, when the conscious mind is stimulated through the emotion of a strong desire.”

This state of mind will allow human beings to tap into the power of Infinite Intelligence. It’s through creative imagination human beings are able to receive thought vibrations from others and they are able to communicate with the subconscious mind of other human beings.

It works automatically and other than synthetic imagination, we want it to work automatically because it works just perfectly and incredibly fast, distances and time zones mean nothing, evidence is given here on this Mental Cleanse mastermind call.

It allows us to create results in our lives that look like miracles in the eyes of others, it will allow us to see blossoming gardens where others only see the desert.

Creative imagination allowed Asa Chandler to see “something” in the Old Kettle that the old doctor could not see.

Chances are imagination in general is heavily underdeveloped in most people, myself included.

Want proof ? Read Napoleon Hill’s story about the Old Kettle when he refers to the secret ingredient the new owner of the kettle mixed into the recipe.

What, my friends, is this secret ingredient ?

I thought of everything else, like sugar or caffeine, but I didn’t “think” of imagination, even when reading the chapter about it.

Let’s face it: Napoleon Hill even wrote:”Give your imagination a test.” and I didn’t think of it, the solution right in front of my eyes.

I was so blind, I could not see…

I know that I used to have vivid imagination formerly, so much of it that my teachers and parents said I had too much of it.

There’s no point in placing the blame on someone.

I’m now old enough to make proper use of both parts of imagination. Desire, faith and specialized knowledge will lead to powerful synthetic imagination and constant use of it, constant training will allow me to tap into the abundance of creative imagination.

That sounds good, right ? But one thing is still missing…

It’s the definiteness of purpose, the absolute decision to own my life, the obsession to own my life.

After reading this chapter, thinking about its lessons for me and writing them down, I am now able to resonate with my self talk and my definite plans on an entirely different level, I would even say that I am able to vibrate with them.

I am fulfilled now with faith, a feeling and state of mind unknown to me since ages.

“Success requires no explanations, failure permits no alibis.”

OK, that’s my lesson plan for chapter 6. Stay tuned for next week’s lesson plan about “Think and grow rich” chapter 7 “Organized Planing – The crystallization of desire into action.”

In January 2011, I published another lesson about this chapter at Think and grow rich – Oliver Tausend reads his lessons – Imagination

    Hey Oliver,

Another great post! I believe that the two kinds of imagination, synthetic and creative, have a vital co-existence within us.

It’s essential to train ourselves to use the synthetic imagination, in effect we’re setting up pathways to enable critical thinking. But once these pathways are fixed and we are able to employ this kind of mental skill, it’s time to get out of the way completely and allow ourselves to pick up on the vibrations of the universe, which is where the true intelligence lies.

Without the training of synthetic imagination, there is no organization, focus or discipline to our thinking. Without the creative imagination, our thinking is simply localized and unplugged from universal power.

As always, a very thought provoking article, thanks!

    Hi Oliver
Wow I have read the book several times but am gaining further distinctions reading your analysis of it. When I was young I too was often told I had a “wild” imagination. I had one teacher tell me I had impossible ideas.
I think over the years working as a CPA my imagination was stifled, although I was always a creative accountant and in the end changed careers. Perhaps I wanted to use my creative imagination more than my synthetic one. I think too many people operate more from the synthetic.
    Great post as always Oliver

    Hi Sue,

I can relate to that “wild” imagination stuff. Can it ever be too wild ? I don’t think so. Dreams, driven by burning desire and faith, do come true.

Creative accounting is interesting, but isn’t accounting one of those professions that mutes out any type of imagination thoroughly ?

In Germany, the financial consulting market – other than the tax advice market – used to be completely unregulated. Anybody regardless of education could sell financial products – what made it hard for customers to tell whether the advice given was good or bad. But there was certainly room for creativity.

Three years ago, they changed the rules – what was necessary with regard to quality – and now some financial advisors are priding themselves that they’re going to be perceived as being on the same level of reputation as their tax advisors.

Now, that’s the last thing I want ;-)

Oliver accounting in Australia has changed over the years. To be good you could be creative but it has changed and yes now it is a profession that mutes out imagination. Maybe that is why I left :-)

    Hi Sue,

and yesterday I heard someone say that accountants count the money of rich people. Now, that’s really mean but there’s also a certain group to it.

Doesn’t seem that you regretted your step to leave accounting.

    Thanks for your comment.

    Hey Oliver,

Very profound. Your thoughts on synthetic imagination were very interesting. For most people, their synthetic imagination or creative imagination for that matter, are only as good as the dominant thoughts that lie in their head.

Your words on creative imagination highlight just how important it is to associate with people who are also headed in the same direction as we are because their influence is far more deep than an exchange of words.

That’s why constant training will allow you to tap into the creative imagination.

Really looking forward to your lesson on the next chapter.

  5. Powerful insights indeed, Oliver! Where does imagination end & visualisation take over?

    Or are they the same?

If we are prone to “day-dreaming”, are we imagining things, visualising things or dreaming of things?

If we look at the Universal Laws & manifesting, what we ardently desire & believe will come to us will in fact come, but we are taught that we need to visualise it first. Now, can we only visualise after we have imagined it? Or, is everything interlinked?

I don’t know if there are definitive lines drawn – we all interpret these differently, but as long as the end result is what we want , then I guess we are doing it “right”.

Time to go – I’m confusing myself!

    Stay inspired,

    Hi Michael,

interesting. What was there first, the chicken or the egg. Chances are they are interlinked, but it starts probably with imagination, it can be a passive part indeed. Visualization is the active part when we start fueling our subconscious mind.

    But that’s just my take.

    Hi Oliver,

I enjoyed your post covering Chapter 6.

Personally I don’t think many people use their imagination in any disciplined way. They might think they do but they would be surprised to find out how rusty their “imagination muscle” is.

I recently confronted my own use of my imagination and was shocked to find that in effect I was using it very little. I have for the last number of weeks been working on this very discipline daily and at length and already I can see improvements. Everything requires practice.

  7. Hi Oliver,

I continue to enjoy your explanation of this wonderful book, it is a deep read in my opinion and a read that you cannot obtain the entire message just reading it one time.

I am like most that are posting here, I believe that you need a combination of the two to be successful. many times we are not trying to reinvent the wheel but just need a little nude on an idea to be successful with it.

There are many times I have an idea on what I want to do but have n really idea how to do it, so I may poke around online and see a few things that others have done. This gives me a few ways to approach and then tweak my idea!

  11. Napoleon Hill also mentions that if we do not see riches in our imagination we will not see it our bank balance. We of course have a SYSTEM with all the skills that you need to become successful in creating extra income at home. But it does not mean that you put on your blinders and not become creative.

The good thing is that others can learn from us how to get their headline catchy as well as their first sentence as Tom Big Al Schrieter teaches everyone that because if those two things aren’t an eye opener for the prospects, nothing else matters!!!

Lets have fun with it and make the prospects want to read more like they would want to listen to a comedian tell them a funny story to get them back on track!!!
