Twitter tools like Tweetdeck are very important in order to keep track with a large following. In the moment of writing, I’ve got nearly 14,000 followers on my Twitter account @luckyoliver70. Please click on the highlighted link to get to it and follow me.
One of the most frequent questions I get is not how and why built this considerable following, but how I do keep track with them.
So let me answer this question first because if people are afraid of large numbers, they won’t get them.
Well, the same would hold true with money, but that’s another story.
I don’t invest more than 20 -30 minutes a day on Twitter or better: for it because I hardly visit the original site.
One of the most important tools in order to keep track with people, communicate with them and build relationship is a free desktop application called Tweetdeck – there’s also an iPhone application called Tweetdeck for iPhone.
You can use Tweetdeck not only for Twitter but also for GoogleBuzz, Facebook, MySpace and Linkedin.
Let’s focus today on how I use it on Twitter for the purposes of keeping track, communicating and building relationships – that’s what it’s all about, isn’t it ?
Please enjoy the following video tutorial I created:
So what is your opinion ? Which tools do you use ? What could I improve ?
I always love your feedback, so please leave me a comment down below with questions, thoughts, or feedback.
And (yes, here’s my call to action) please share this post with your Twitter and Facebook friends by clicking on the share buttons below.
I appreciate you telling others.
Thanks in advance !

Hey Oliver,
Enjoyed your video, looking forward to part 2 and learning how to really grow my following list.
I have recently started using TweetAdder, although not a free app, a single license is only $55.00. It is another very powerful too. You can do keyword searches for groups, or for specific terms etc. you are interested in and compile a list of thousands. TweetAdder will follow those in your list based on the scheduled time you set up.
You can also automate a list of Tweets, Thank-You messages, Follow back, UnFollow and more.
Thanks again and I will be back for part 2!

Hi Richard,
a part of part 2 (or part 3) is going to be about TweetAdder, it’s also pretty cool and inexpensive and always runs in the background (at night the computer gets a break)
Thanks for your comment.

Hey Oliver, I use Tweetdeck too which I love. The columns feature makes it so easy to keep track of specific groups or individuals.
The other thing I do is use a timer

Hi Liz,
exactly. Thanks for sharing your insights.
A timer is also a good idea…I removed the general newsfeed column, that has already been helpful.

Hi Oliver,
While I know Tweetdeck I have never used it. To be honest I don’t spend a lot of time on Twitter these days but I can see how this application would help with this especially from a time saving point of view.
I use an add on for Chrome which is the browser I use called “Chromed Bird” to keep track of Twitter but I think Tweetdeck would have a wider application so I might give it a try.

Hi Marcus,
the cool thing is that I don’t spend much time on Twitter either, tools like Tweetdeck make Twitter very effective.
I use Firefox so I can’t say anything about Chrome applications.
Thanks for your comment.

Hey Oli,
columns are key man, they help a lot to stay on track on your most recent tweets and also help to put your friends in the right kind of groups.

Hey Oliver,
I don’t know why, but I’ve always tried to avoid tweetdeck. Probably because I didn’t want my computer being clogged up with unnecessary applications. I’ve realised now that Tweetdeck is must have, thanks to you. I’ve been using it for a couple of days and I love it!

Hi Wayne,
even if you keep it opened all day long, it doesn’t affect the computer’s performance much, in my experience. What I do, I close it after I went through my relevant columns and open it again at night. That makes sense in order not to be distracted by it.
It’s a must have, definitely.
Thanks for your comment.

Twitter Tools Pt. 1 – Keeping Track With Tweetdeck – Video ……
Here at World Spinner we are debating the same thing……
Hi Oliver,
Twitter is a whole new cattle of fish. Iv been running mine at just over 14000 but it just seems to run itself. I find you just get better and better at understanding it by learning bit by bit over time majic happens.
Im glad you shared this information I picked up on a couple of great tips here.
Thankyou Oliver

HI Maria,
the misconception a lot of people entertain is that you have to deal with every single one of 14,000 followers personally in order to use Twitter beneficially for everyone. A misconception or ignorance of leverage in general ? I don’t know. What I know is that in a network even weak links are very important, aren’t they ?
Thanks for your comment.

Hello Oliver,
You know how much I love tweeter since this is one of the most effective tool I use to drive traffic in my site, but honestly I have not tried using tweetdeck. I’ve been using marketmesuite and it’s working well so far , but I would love to learn more about tweetdeck since you highly recommend it.
Thanks and All the best,

HI Ana,
yeah, I thought of you when doing this video. Just recently my stats changed in favour of Twitter, average time visitors stayed on my blog slightly increased, average time visitors from Twitter stayed on my blog skyrocketed (in comparison at least). A consequence of a more serious take on it ? Time will tell.
Thanks for your comment.

Hi Oliver,
Great job on your video and post. I’ve converted to market me tweet based on Ana’s suggestion in her post a while back. It is similar to tweet deck but has a different bells and whistles. I used to use tweet deck before switching and I’m highly suggest it for anyone who wants a free option to manage their growing twitter list. It’s a fantastic tool.
I’ve not used Tweet Adder, so I’m looking forward to your future post.

I remember Ana’s excitement about “Market me tweet”, that’s also an option, absolutely.
Tweetadder is not that big a deal…probably you don’t need it as you use “Market me tweet”.
