Comeback after 17 years – My experiences
My Dad, my little brother and I spent last weekend in Lechtal (Austria) to do something I haven’t been doing for 17 years.
I am grateful for a great weekend !
Please watch this video to learn more:
17 years is a long period of time, isn’t it ?
I was a little bit afraid of my comeback – I didn’t even have any equipment for cross country skiing – so we had to rent it there.
You may or may not know from my running videos that I run, so I didn’t worry about my stamina – but I was wondering if I had enough power in my arms.
Writing blog posts is not the best training for arm muscles, isn’t it ?
And I was wondering if I was able to coordinate my steps and keep balance.
To my total surprise, it went very well.
It seems that we (our brain, our body etc.) don’t forget what we once learned – it is stored someplace and it can be recalled when necessary and desired.
Of course, so were my technical weaknesses…
We did 25 km on days 1 and 2 and even 30 km on day 3 – my muscles in my legs and arms (and shoulders !) were hurting slightly but once I gained momentum, the slight muscular pain was forgotten.
I was able to compensate lack of physical and muscular power with momentum from within.
I even learned the “1-1 pace” on day 2 – a technique I always had trouble with 17 years ago because of lack of coordination and balance.
How amazing is that ?
I learned a lot, also for my life and business:
Less pressure and physical power, more momentum and playful movements – that’s the bottom line.
What are your experiences with comebacks after a long period of time ?
I always love your feedback, so please leave me a comment down below with questions, thoughts, or feedback.
And (yes, here’s my call to action) please share this post with your Twitter and Facebook friends by clicking on the share buttons above.
I appreciate you telling others.

Hi Oliver,
I did this last year…downhill skiing after many years away from the slopes. It does come back, even if the muscles are a little tight.
I think that I make things harder in my “head” than they really are when I get going on them again!
Good for you! Congratulations on a great comeback!

Hi Heather,
that hits the nail on its head: We make things harder in our heads. I also was a little bit afraid of my comeback – and now I am asking myself: Why ?
Thanks for sharing your experiences, appreciate that.
Take care

Hi Oliver,
Congratulations on the comeback. I think your line, “Less pressure and physical power, more momentum and playful movements – that’s the bottom line.”
says it all from a learning point of view.
When we relax more it’s astounding how much easier everything is. As for remembering what to do, it just goes to show once again how phenomenal the human body and mind is.

Hi Marcus,
thanks for your comment. It’s amazing how our body and mind are configured and how they work together – if we let them.
Take care

You had fun, didn’t you? Well done on your comeback
17 years is a long time but you did very well.
“It seems that we (our brain, our body etc.) don’t forget what we once learned – it is stored someplace and it can be recalled when necessary and desired.” – Sums it all up and you have clearly demonstrated that.
Thanks for sharing this with us.
All the best,
Mavis
