MLM: Would you like to be sponsored by yourself ? This question formerly frightened me to death because I was thinking of my weaknesses.
As a matter of fact, I became more self-confident when I started focusing on my strengths and what I am doing well in my MLM business.
A good point to start with is asking yourself: What do you expect from your sponsor in MLM ? Chances are if you expect it, your team members are doing so as well.
If you already have team members, it might be a good idea to ask them what they expect from you and whether you meet the expectations.
Of course, you can always decide whether you want to meet other people’s expectations – always with the best interest of your individual team member in mind.
Let me give you some reasons why I would want to be sponsored by myself:
1. I am approachable by email, Skype, social media and my MLM blog and usually respond to messages on time – I am not perfect either
2. I help people develop their strengths, for example by calling leads together or recommending them to our live leads call (which is not always a fit due to time zone differences) – so that they can learn from me and other team members. I don’t even shy away from calling native English speakers together with team members who are native English speakers as well (I’m German)
3. My team members can learn from me with regard to blogging, video and relationship building and prospecting. Of course I am a constant learner as well and far from being perfect. But I can tell from the feedback I get from people on my team and people who are not on my team that I am doing well and improving constantly.
4. I am absolutely convinced of the necessity of personal development in the MLM industry. On our team, we have institutionalized personal development and made available to anybody for free through the Mental Cleanse. I am leading by example in this field (if in one, then in this one) but I am not shoving it down people’s throats, it’s their decision.
5. That gets us to another point: I am patient and can only tell people what worked for me and what didn’t work for me. Chances are that something that didn’t work for me, works for someone else – that’s why I try to always consider the entire picture. Of course, it’s also possible that something that did work for me doesn’t work for someone else. Good luck I am not on my own because I am a part of an awesome system I point people to. So everybody can become successful on our team by becoming a professional pointer. They don’t have become the expert (I’m not the expert either and don’t want to be the expert)
6. Part of my mission is building an international MLM business by education and teamwork and attracting professional and motivated network marketers, volunteers. I don’t want to motivate people, I want to inspire them, lead by example and help them find out their core motivation, their WHY. I can’t do this alone, I can only do this together with a proven duplicatable system and without agenda.
Bottom line: The best sponsor is only as good as the system they are using. There’s an old saying that the system is not everything, but without the system, everything else is nothing. Building an MLM business is team sports, nobody can build this business alone.
It’s possible to recruit people alone, but not to sponsor them into a business and help them build a business that “learns” to take care of itself.
I focused on the positive things, on my strengths. On the strengths I am personally aware of and other people gave me feedback on.
So it’s not about bragging even though a little voice inside of me tries to tell me that I am not supposed to brag. I don’t brag, I am simply aware of my strengths and share them with people. I focus on my strengths and not my weaknesses that I have like everybody else.
Chances are that my weaknesses are other people’s strengths – by forging a team we are able to combine and leverage power of the awesome strengths of many many people throughout the planet.

Hey Oliver,
Great stuff. Thanks for sharing your strengths, no wonder you’re so successful!
It’s true, before you take care of other people, do take care of yourself. Build on your strengths and improve on your weaknesses.
Leaders lead by example and always cultivate key leadership qualities and instill them in their teams so they can succeed in their businesses as well. And that’s exactly what you’re doing, Oliver.
Congratulations and keep up the good work!
All the best,
Mavis

Hi Mavis,
thanks for your kind comment and your encouragement. Most people know that it’s better to focus on strengths than on weakness. We will always fall short if we compare ourselves with others.
Take care

Hi Oliver,
I don’t think you were bragging at all. I think you only honestly shared what you bring to the table as a sponsor how you take care of your team. Focusing on your strengths but at the same time acknowledging and working to improve your weaknesses is key.
Leaders are learners who constantly work on improving themselves so they can share what they learned with their team.
I know you as a very caring and nurturing person and if I were looking for a new opportunity I would definitely want a sponsor like you.
To you continued success,
Ilka

Hi Ilka,
thanks for your great comment. You are right that it’s not bragging when we are aware of our assets, what we bring to the table, nicely put. By our strenghts and by being aware of them – and only by that – we are able to help others.
Good to know that you would choose a sponsor like me
Well, I am happy that you are happy with your opportunity. Not many people actually are, even though they pitch it all over the place. Everybody who’s happy is an asset.
Take care

Hi Janet,
thanks for your appreciative comment. Lol, a “show stopper”. That’s true. You can scare people to death with this question. However, the answers to this question only give us some advice where we need to improve. That’s all. Nothing scary.

Fabulous Oliver and I don’t think that you’re bragging. You are just very confident in your abilities and what you bring to the table. As a leader you should be!
I would definitely want to be sponsored in business by myself for some of the same reasons you stated above. I love what I do and I do what I love.

I definitely wouldn’t want to be sponsored by myself. On the other hand, I would love to sponsor myself. It’s just a matter of which qualities I appreciate, and which I know need work.
Having had bad MLM and network marketing experiences (one of which I know have to declare bankruptcy for, because I said “yes” when my gut told me to say “no.”) I know a little bit more about listening to myself vs when to listen to others.
The qualities you list are all very admirable, and I would love to be sponsored by someone with those qualities!

Hi Oliver,
Not really fed up with MLM because I’m still keeping an eye out for a good opportunity, but I’m not actively searching and I’m definitely slower to make any decisions. If I learned one lesson with my experiences, it’s not to care what my up-line says or how they push me; if my gut doesn’t feel it, I’m not doing it!
Robert Kiyosaki says we learn more from our mistakes than we do from our successes. If I learned anything from that mistake, it’s to always trust my intuition. It’s never led me wrong.
Take care!

Hi Delena,
the issue with most uplines is that they’re not more educated than the people they’re sponsoring. They don’t have a clue, that’s why they’re telling people stuff like “Buy leads” or “Make a list of friends and family.” or “MLM is a sales business.” They have been taught that wrong stuff by their own upline, so eventually we end up at looking at the company’s management and founders. There’s an old saying that fish rottens from its head.
All that is not your fault and not of your making. That’s what we’re teaching people in the ebook “Success in 10 steps”
The lesson you learned from your mistake in MLM is priceless.
Thanks for open and honest comment.
Take care
Oliver
Hi Oliver,
A very well-written post, which perfectly describes the type of mentor/sponsor that you are. Well, what more can I say? I have personally witnessed in you all the leadership qualities you mentioned here, and I concur that you have all these and more!
I thank you for always being approachable and for inspiring non-native English speakers like myself. But I believe the most important asset that you have is your love for personal development. After all, your business can only grow to the extent that you do. I look forward to working closely with you, Oliver.
Take care,
Rowena

Hi Rowena,
thanks for your awesome comment. I couldn’t agree more that our business only will grow if we grow personally.
I’m also looking forward to working with you as you’re a great student and I am sure that we can learn a lot from each other. Helping you helps me, that’s our motto.
Take care
Oliver
