Previous post: Think And Grow Rich – The Ghost Of Fear Of Old Age Pt. 1
In yesterday’s post, I wrote about the understandable, more tangible part of fear of old age that can become reality if we don’t prepare ourselves for the economic changes that are ahead of us.
Today, I am going to write about another source of this fear that Napoleon Hill describes as follows:
“Secondly, and by far the most common source of origin, (it comes) from false and cruel teachings of the past which have been too well mixed with ‘fire and brimstone’, and other bogies cunningly designed to enslave man through fear.”
He goes on:
“In the basic fear of old age, man has two very sound reasons for his apprehension – one growing out of his distrust of his fellowman, who may seize whatever worldly goods he may possess, and the other arising from the terrible pictures of the world beyond, which are planted in his mind, through social heredity before he came into full possession of his mind.”
Let me point out two aspects of these two sentences:
“The world beyond” and the programming (as we would say today) “before he came into full possession of his mind”.
What did people tell you about the “world beyond” before you were able to think for yourself ?
Regardless what they were telling you, you already had it in your operating system when starting thinking for yourself. And then, you only could think for yourself with this operating system and not against it. At least not without conscious personal development efforts to rewire your brain, like we do in our Mental Cleanse.
So again the question, what did people tell you about the “world beyond”, parents, grand-parents, pastors and teachers ?
Whatever they were telling you, did any of these authorities really know what was going on in the “world beyond”, provided it existed ?
But you had to believe them because they were your only resource of information.
Everybody wants to go to heaven, but nobody wants to die – as the old saying goes.
Well, if heaven really existed, who would decide whether people would get access to it ?
Who came back in his former physical body and told everybody what was going on ?
If hell existed, who would decide whether we would be sent there ?
And even more importantly, how can we influence the instance deciding about the fate of our soul, with our worldly behaviour, provided this instance existed ?
Because this was what they were telling us: If you do this, you get there. And if you don’t do this and do that instead, you get someplace else. They were playing this instance.
That means, especially this intangible part of this fear consists of lies and false “ifs” and “becauses”. It consists of demons, nothing else.
We have to burn the bridges of these false connections in our brain, even though we might question the authority of our parents, grand-parents, teachers and pastors.
Haunted by the ghost of fear of criticism ?
Wake up: None of these people knows what is going on. Neither do I, neither do you.
But some of these authorities try to sell people that they know better – and some poor souls believe them.
It becomes especially delicate when religious leaders glorify poverty.
Firstly ask yourself: How many of these religious leaders preach water and drink wine, as we say in Germany ?
Secondly: If people believe that poverty is something noble and that being poor gets them into heaven and being rich into hell, they already created the foundation for the fear of poverty-part of the fear of old age. They are mentally trapped by their fears, a vicious circle begins. They are enslaved through their fear and hand it over to their children and children’s children.
In conclusion, let me clarify that I don’t know how the world works.
The trouble is that people who don’t know either make others believe they knew how the world works by addressing people’s fears.
I can only try to offer some ideas to get you to think for yourself and enable you to make an educated decision.
It’s totally up to you what you believe or not.
Strengthen beliefs that serve you and weaken beliefs that do you a disservice.
Don’t believe anything only because someone else says it.

Hi Oliver, it’s so true. We don’t know and there is not reason some should be privy to information and not others. You have to come up with your own believe system and not give too much credit to things we don’t know. We particularly have to make sure we’re not allowing ourselves to be trapped in pre programmed fears also. I choose to walk in faith than fear and realize that even though I do n’t know what lies a head, I just have to do the best I can while I can. We all have that option.

Hi Jayne,
thanks for your thoughtful comment. Faith instead of fear, that the key. Where one exists, the other can’t survive.
Take care

Hey Oliver,
“Don’t believe anything only because someone else says it.” You’ll not get far if you follow other people’s beliefs for the sake of following them.
I agree with Jayne about creating your own belief system and live by it. It’s a powerful way of dealing with your challenges and fears in life. The key is to keep strengthening it.
Thanks for sharing your insights, Oliver.
All the best,
Mavis

Hi Mavis,
thanks for your comment. Absolutely, we can adopt other people’s beliefs – if they serve us. So it’s about choosing them wisely and consciously.

Hi Oliver!
I have to admit for the longest time I was following everyone else’s recipes for living, and it didn’t get me very far. In fact, it held me back for almost ten years! Now I’ve decided that it’s time I decided for myself how the world works, ignore everyone else’s cynicism and desire to make themselves feel better by keeping others down, and just run!

Great Post Oliver,
It is so true that many people believe that poverty is a noble goal. It says in the bible the “Money is the root of all evil” but not the love of money
For me I believe any person who tries to make a difefrence by aiming to creat wealth is a noble goal.
“The only way to help the poor is to ensure you dont become one of them”
Look either ur building ur fortune or working for someone who is
Thanks for sharing…
