Would it be OK if I continued to share with you the skills I learned from Tom ‘Big Al’ Schreiter for my MLM business ?
A quick recap: In my previous posts I introduced the 4 different personality types to you that are represented by the colours Yellow, Blue, Green and Red. And I shared with you how to detect them. So you are now able to master the single most important skill in MLM: How to understand and speak in the secret language of your prospects.
Today we’re going to talk about the second most important skill I mentioned in MLM: Learning The Skills From Tom ‘Big Al’ Schreiter Pt. 1: The second most important skill is the ability to talk to the decision-making instance in the human brain.
Big Al basically says that most people fail in their MLM businesses because they talk to the conscious mind of their people, in lengthy presentations, sophisticated slide shows and complicated flipcharts.
Probably they’re only doing what their sponsor and company told them to do and so they present 45 minutes and ask their prospect at the end if they want to join.
And what’s the prospects answer ? No.
Tom stresses here that the prospect took the final decision after 30 seconds (!) of our presentation.
And we tortured them for another 44.5 minutes.
So the question is: Who or what took the decision ?
The thinking part of the brain, the conscious mind ?
Or the decision-making part of the brain ?
The thinking part of the brain can only think one thought at a time – that’s why people don’t really listen what you’re saying.
They’re permanently thinking of something else, the bills to pay, the kids to pick up, food to buy, the argument with the boss etc.
So it’s obviously the decision-making part of the brain.
Well you know how, now I have some good and bad news for you.
The bad news is that it’s a pea-sized part of our brain called subconscious mind that makes all decisions, even against the larger thinking part of the brain. Pea against elephant. And the winner is the pea !
Well, you might think that your conscious mind took the decision. But the elephant only justifies the pea’s decision.
The good news is, if you swallow your ego and really get this, then a whole new world opens up for you because you can learn how to push the right buttons in people – and eventually get them to say YES after 30 seconds. You’re pushing their buttons anyway, but unconsciously the wrong ones. So why not pushing consciously the right ones ?
And yes, it’s manipulation. But most people know that we are manipulated anyway.
So there are two types of people in the world, those who are run by their subconscious mind and admit it and those that are run by their subconscious mind and don’t admit it.
That’s why I am mentioning the ego here because it doesn’t like the idea that it is run by the subconscious mind.
That’s why the ego says things like:”I am different.” or it asks questions like:”Which subconscious mind ? I have it under control.”
There’s an old saying in Germany that hit dogs start barking. So if the ego starts barking you know now why: Oooh, touched a nerve, huh ?
If you don’t believe this, then let me ask you this: Everybody knows that they have to exercise more and eat less to lose weight, right ? But what if you come across a thing called donut ? Or a thing called gravity when you’re supposed to get up at 5 AM to exercise ?
And if everybody knows the secret of losing weight, how come that so many people are fat ?
We all need certain things that are good for us – whatever it is, myself included. But do we want them, especially if there’s a price to pay that might cause pain or changes in our lives ?
If we don’t want what we need, we don’t do it, make it, get it.
And it’s finally our subconscious mind that decides whether we want to pay the price or not.
Why do people cry when they watch a touchy movie ? We know that it isn’t real, don’t we ?
Why do we get angry when we read something in the paper, for example about injustice or what a politician did or did not ? It’s only printed letters on paper and we are not affected physically and yet our system responds to it.
Think about it for a moment: How many situations did you have today that were run by your subconscious mind ?
I am not bashing the subconscious mind, it’s just like it is: It can’t think, works on automatic programming and runs our lives.
I am only saying that the subconscious mind is a wonderful tool to help people get what they need and want.
So you have the wonderful tool called subconscious mind in your hands – but there’s a catch.
The catch is: You have to learn some skills to use this tool correctly and responsibly.
Well you know how, every tool is only an extension of yourself so everybody knows that it is smart to learn how to use it correctly.
In MLM our tools are our words and sequences of words.
Would it be OK then if I shared with you in my next post MLM: Learning The Skills From Tom ‘Big Al’ Schreiter Pt. 5 some magic sentences I learned from Big Al that talk directly to the subconscious mind ?
What is your opinion ?
I always love your reaction, so please leave me a comment down below with questions, thoughts, or feedback.

Hey Oliver,
Thats the thing I learn about people. Everyone says they want it, but in actually they want the feeling that money can do for them. That is the subconscious that you’re referring to. I look forward to your next post!

Hi Sherman,
well you know how, money is just a tool – also a tool to get a certain feeling.
Thanks for your comment.

Hi Oliver… I believe it was Robert Cialdini, author of ‘Influence: The Science of Persuasion’ who called this the Click-Whirr response. The subconscious mind makes automatic assessments based on a similar looking situations. Feed the subconscious mind the right words and you get the Click-Whirr… automatic sales. I’m curious to see what your suggestions are in the next article.

thanks for your initial comment on my blog. That’s the bottom line: The subconscious mind makes automatic assessments based on similar looking situations. Thanks for pointing that out.

Hi Oliver!
Wow, great message and I can’t wait to see part 5 of your Tom Big Al Schreiter series!
The subconscious mind is such a powerful thing that it’s hard to believe how much of time we don’t even realize that it’s driving our decisions. I’m still learning how to use my subconscious mind for good.
Thanks for the great post and audio!

Oh, I am sorry I missed the post about the colors! I will have to catch up so I can learn about them.
I like your post today about the decision-making and subconscious parts of the brain! It sounds like “subconscious” refers to the thoughts and feelings and reactions we aren’t completely aware of, right?
And that’s the part that decides, huh? Wow. I see why you say that’s both good news and bad news

Hi Jeanine,
yes, catch up the colours, you’ll be glad you did
That’s true, we aren’t aware of our subconscious thoughts and we aren’t aware of the fact that our subconscious mind runs the game.
Thanks for your comment.

I’m all for reading more about this area of study. Whenever I read articles that tie into consumer psychology or behavior and even just the inner workings of our subconscious mind I am fascinated.
This is a quality read, Oliver. I really liked Dahlia’s connection with Cialdini’s Click-Whirr response. It’s a continuing mission to find the right buttons to [ethically] push and then provide lasting value.
Thanks,
Jon

Hi Oliver,
I must say that I so appreciate the audio version of your posts, it allows me to rest my eyes for a while, and to listen to you as if you’re just on the other line (like our usual conversations
…
Alright, I have to be very honest that this type of post is something that I need to listen to or read a few times, before the teachings sink in. This is very much congruent with the mental cleanse, wherein we get to stop the chatter in our minds. So am I right in saying that the decision-making mind is what benefits from the mental cleanse? You know what, women’s brains tend to have all the “associations”, never-ending in fact, that I must truly recommend the mental cleanse to most people, especially to women!
I must also share that I am quite amazed to know that the core of Big Al’s teachings are all about programming the subconscious mind. This all the more re-affirms how getting to the ‘root’ , can tremendously help us in all aspects of life – be it being good in sales, marketing, communications, relationships, and coaching. All these can be achieved if we nurture our pea-sized subconscious mind… ‘MIND’-boggling stuff indeed!

Hi Rowena,
you mention the very reason why I love audios as well: Giving my eyes a rest, leaning back and relaxing.
I would also say that you are right that the subconscious mind is cleared up by the mental cleanse.
Of course, knowing how the subconscious mind works is helpful in any areas of life.
Thanks for your valuable comment.

You’ve talked so much on ‘the small guy in that corner’ controlling a bulk of my life unconsciously. It’s also good to know there’re ways to appeal to the inner man in the shortest possible time.
Interesting post and hope you keep this up. Thanks.

Hi Oliver,
Well I have to admit that I am only too aware of how my subconscious likes to run the show and unfortunately when you develop this awareness the subconscious becomes even more scrupulous so it’s a never ending process.
The great thing is learning how not to waste time on things like 45 minute opportunity presentations and rather ask the right questions that will press the “feeling” buttons.
I don’t think of it as manipulation just blessed to have the knowledge of how people’s minds work so that one can help them further along the path to success.

to shorten up the entire process is better for both parties, isn’t it ? What’s the point of torturing people another 44.5 minutes after they took their final decision ?

Well Oliver
You have some interesting info here. Most people have heard of the bible but has never opened it. How do you know what is good if you don’t know the truth.
We listen to our subconscious mind and find it is feed a lot of garbage from this world. If we feed our minds good food, it will produce good fruit.
When we see the goodness of our Lord God he will give us new eyes and ears.
Money is a awesome tool to work for his glory, what is life on earth compared to eternal life in paradise.
Keep up the good work Oliver I look forward to your next post.
Blessings,
