Previous lesson plan about this chapter 13 (December 2010): Think and grow rich – The brain – Lessons from chapter 13

CHAPTER 13: THE BRAIN – A BROADCASTING AND RECEIVING STATION FOR THOUGHT – The Twelfth Step toward Riches

Let me quote the first paragraph of this very dense chapter:”MORE than twenty years ago, the author, working in conjunction with the late Dr. Alexander Graham Bell, and Dr. Elmer R. Gates, observed that every human brain is both a broadcasting and receiving station for the vibration of thought. Through the medium of the ether, in a fashion similar to that employed by the radio broadcasting principle, every human brain is capable of picking up vibrations of thought which are being released by other brains.”

And:”In connection with the statement in the preceding paragraph, compare, and consider the description of the Creative Imagination, as outlined in the chapter on Imagination. The Creative Imagination is the “receiving set” of the brain, which receives thoughts, released by the brains of others. It is the agency of communication between one’s conscious, or reasoning mind, and the four sources from which one may receive thought stimuli.”

Napoleon Hill goes on:”When stimulated, or ‘stepped up’ to a high rate of vibration, the mind becomes more receptive to the vibration of thought which reaches it through
the ether from outside sources. This ‘stepping up’ process takes place through the positive emotions, or the negative emotions. Through the emotions, the vibrations of thought may be increased.”

And now go ahead to listen to my lesson plan. It deals with a negative emotion that can make us feel good. It likes going undercover.

  2. Great post, Oliver! I’m also reminded of some of the works of Tony Buzan that I’ve read about the brain. It never ceases to amaze me just how much our brain is really capable of, both for good and for ill.

    Hi Steve,

thanks for your thoughtful comment. The brain is a masterpiece although it is said to have only a capacity of 160 GB. So we really need to make conscious decisions what we let in or not.

Oliver, aloha. When you burst into song I was rendered speechless. Congratulations on accomplishing that feat! Seriously, Oliver, I so appreciated learning that new dimension of you. Just like a flower, you are opening up more and more.

You have made amazing progress and even more so because you are so Green. Since it is obvious you are a multi-talented individual with a strong success orientation, it is surprising to learn that you were so good with self sabotage. The only thing I can think of is that when recognition came your way, the “numbers” did not add up for your inner Green.

What you said about rage is so true and I thank you for the reminder. A friend of mine is going through something right now that is enraging her even though I have told her how detrimental that feeling is. Now, I can refer her to this post and your wonderful explanation.

Oliver, this is a fantastic post. Your well delivered message will benefit may. Thank you for your candor and sharing. All the best to you, my friend. Aloha. Janet

    HI Janet,

thanks for your appreciative comment. It required me to overcome some fear to start singing ;-) but I did it.

Green is a synonym for excellence. I am saying that without false pride because the excellence can also work against us, escpecially when we are excellent at self-sabotage.

My mentor Michael Dlouhy says that Greens tend to look for reasons to quit, sometimes despite themselves. So the challenge for us is to overcome that bad habit. Because it’s probably not more than a bad habit.

There were times when I had thousands of excellent reasons to quit – and everybody would have congratulated me for being so sensible.

One saying I am keeping in my mind (among others) is: The only way to fail in network marketing is to quit.

I would be more than happy if you shared this post with your friend.

    Take care

  6. Hi Oliver,

It is amazing that the creative thinking part of the brain arises from a receiving set. The more we input the more creative we get, that sorts of brings up the logic :) But yet it is something really great to think of.

    Cheers,
    Jane.

  7. Oliver, how sweet to hear you sing!!

And I could relate to a lot of what you were saying.

I, too, have found ways to negate my own success, too, by comparing myself with others. But I am hoping to leave self-sabotage behind (in the past) so I can have a better future.

I agree with what you said about rage, as well, that it feels so empowering but happens when you have the least amount of healthy control.

    Great post & lesson!

    Hi Oliver,

Comparing ourselves to anybody else or indeed allowing what anybody else thinks to influence us, separates us from the perfection that we are.

This causes us to feel unworthy leading to self sabotage and self destruction. I know as I have been down both these roads in this life time.

Your own story in this regard is one that I resonated with very strongly.

The more we are able to tune out of the physical world and tune into the larger part of us which is not seen, the more efficient we become at observing our behaviour in the physical.

I actually find much of mine very amusing these days although it was not always like this. At first I found it an intensely painful experience even though I was an observer.

Always inspiring to hear your thoughts as you journey on Oliver!

We all were in this situation at some point in time (97 % of the population). Most people remain in this state of self-sabotage and self-destruction their entire life. People like you and me change things as they become aware of their subconscious thoughts and feelings.

    Hi Oliver,

Maybe I can request for a song during one of our calls, lol. Kidding aside, I so appreciate you let us hear you sing, your version of the song is very heartwarming :-)

As the mentors always say in the Mental Cleanse calls, “Own Your Mind and You’ll Own Your Life”! I know how you have struggled with self-sabotage before (as you shared them in your past lesson plans), and the very fact that you share this experience with everyone, and through letting us know how you conquered it , makes you a very respectable leader and coach. It’s a continuous battle – you started with mere awareness, but now you are taking concrete steps, toward controlling your mind, and thoughts.

I am continually inspired by your posts! Thank you, Oliver.

    Oliver,

We are always seeing new dimensions of you through your lesson plans. Now singing? Wow. Thank you for sharing a talent I didn’t know you had.

But the self-sabotage thing hit me today. It’s interesting because in my personal life (relationships) I tend to self-sabotage. Business comes first and relationships come second. This is imbalanced and I always work to correct it but often I struggle.

The brain has powers we have yet to unlock and may never understand. Our lives will be spent filling our 160GB capacity :) But as you said, we would be wise to show discretion concerning what we let in.

    Hi Jon,

thanks for your comment. At the end of the day, it’s the question whether you’re happy with your life or not. Nobody can tell apart from you. It might be a good idea to find out why you are self-sabotaging yourself in relationships. What’s the benefit of it ? There must be a subconscious benefit even if it’s a weird one, otherwise you wouldn’t do it.

  11. Hey Oliver,

You are sharing some pretty intense stuff! Anytime we branch into areas like self deception and rage there can be some very unexpected things found “behind the curtain.”

As a young boy, I was full of rage. Why, I will never know. I grew up in a great household with supportive parents, yet every day things that went wrong — things that others would find routine — just enraged me. As time went on, this rage subsided, but the danger is always rage turned inwards, don’t you think?

Today, I still can feel these emotions on an occasional basis, but for the most part I have learned to deal with them. Enter in your discussion on self deception and it becomes a bit more perplexing. Sometimes we deceive ourselves into thinking we are dealing with things when we are not.

I hadn’t planned on going through all this when I started this comment. What I really wanted to say was thank you for taking us along your road of personal development with you!

But as always, your posts tend to make me think and analyze my own beliefs.

Thank you for that, as well!

    Bob

PS I learned something else about you today — you have a rather nice voice for singing! :-)

    Hi Bob,

thanks for your comment. Glad that you feel enticed to write more about yourself as you originally planned.

I agree that rage and all other negative emotions have negative impact on us and not on others. Holding on to anger and resentment is like drinking poison and expecting someone else to die. Herein lies the universal justice: The way ou think has first and foremost effects on your own soul and body.

I am glad you also liked my singing :-)

Amazing! The brain can pick up waves. There is no doubt that there is a special energy that allows us to….notice when someone is watching us. It is absolutely fascinating to read about experiments into this realm.

The brain certainly has a negative energy. Programming the brain to avoid deception and process positive images is an invaluable skill.
