THE DRIVING FORCE – The Ninth Step toward Riches

Napoleon Hill writes at the beginning of this chapter:”POWER is essential for success in the accumulation of money. PLANS are inert and useless, without sufficient POWER to translate them into ACTION.”

And:”This chapter will describe the method by which an individual may attain and apply POWER. POWER may be defined as ‘organized and intelligently directed KNOWLEDGE.’ Power, as the term is here used, refers to ORGANIZED effort, sufficient to enable an individual to transmute DESIRE into its monetary equivalent.”

He goes on:”ORGANIZED effort is produced through the coordination of effort of two or more people, who work toward a DEFINITE end, in a spirit of harmony. POWER IS REQUIRED FOR THE ACCUMULATION OF MONEY! POWER IS NECESSARY FOR THE RETENTION OF MONEY AFTER IT HAS BEEN ACCUMULATED!”

Mr. Hill knew his stuff! All the ideas and desires in the world won’t go anywhere without power, and it takes satisfactory power to get over the tepid attempts that most people make in the beginning. The strength to really create positive action comes from knowledge, desire, and motivation.

Oliver what an awesome post! Isnt it funny how sometimes the ‘answer’ to something appears just at the right time. The same t hing happened to me today when I took my son to Karate, yet would have much rather stayed home all cozy on this rainy Saturday AM. (I’ll do a post about it later on rather than give away the punch line).

But back to your point too about the negative one. Oh Garschk… gotta tell you… you simply have to nip those types in the bud. It is so wierd though how you say that we will justify their behavior.

I don’t know it it’s caused by over programming of when people tell you to look at yourself first… or not.

I just decided to cut all ties to those who would not be supportive. The funny thing is too by sorting my acquaintances that some of the people who I least thought would be behind me…. ARE!

I am so impressed by your consistent delivery of this awesome content. Napolean Hill was so wise– and actually, Andrew Carnegie for contracting him.

I find it interesting to read closely the description here of Power…organized effort…”sufficient to enable an individual to transmute DESIRE into its monetary equivalent.” And then… “produced through the coordination of effort of two or more people”.

I’m not sure I’ve ever thought about power as a coordinated effort of two or more people…
something to ponder for sure.

I got the chance to listen to this before, but I am glad to have listened to it again. It gave me new insights (that’s what your blog posts always do!), and I can truly feel what strange power woke you up at 430AM. Not only did you develop the discipline to wake up so early, but you were in that call, because a solution to something that was affecting your life was brought to you. This is just a powerful story of how the mastermind clearly works.

Also, it is very interesting to note that the coaches’ call provided you with an opportunity to discuss the matter with your wife, not knowing that you were actually having the same feelings about this negative person. I bet you love waking up at 430 now!

Hi Rowena,

well, due to the strange thing called gravity it is still a challenge to get up at 4 AM on Sundays, lol.

The cool thing: If you are really determined to remove a person from your life – which is something I didn’t take lightheartedly – this person will pick up on your determination. Since this call, it seems that this person removed me from their life, at least they leave us in peace without talking to them. What Michael told me to say, I didn’t have to say it, nor my wife. But I am still willing to say it, just in case.

So much negativity is just in our minds! But I know that’s not hte real point you’re making here.

The power of the mastermind to overcome problems and blow away obstacles which alone we cannot seem to transcend alone is truly remarkable. It’s like the old saying – ‘the whole is greater than the sum of it’s parts’

Surround yourself with the right people, and your potential value to the whole is increased.

Hi Oliver,
This is great stuff, I had to listen to the audio twice because I really wanted to make sure that I got it all. It can be really difficult to deal with the negativity of others and I have read/heard several different thoughts on how to deal with it. The most common solution is to remove the person from your life. Which is great if you can but there are many times when that just isn’t possible, as with a family member.

thanks for your comment and for listening to the audio twice. The strange thing is that negative people can make you feel bad because you’re positive. I was willing to remove this person from my life, even my wife, and that does mean something. I said to myself: Why would I allow family members to pester me when I got ride of negative friends, customers, team members etc. ? Only because they’re family ? At the end I had to make a decision what I value more, my life or their emotions.
