Previous written lesson plan about this chapter (October 2010): Think And Grow Rich – Decision – Lessons From Chapter 8
Decision – The mastery of procrastination – The seventh step toward riches
Napoleon Hill writes at the beginning of this chapter:”ACCURATE analysis of over 25,000 men and women who had experienced failure, disclosed the fact that LACK OF DECISION was near the head of the list of the 30 major causes of FAILURE. This is no mere statement of a theory—it is a fact. PROCRASTINATION, the opposite of DECISION, is a common enemy which practically every man must conquer.”
And:”You will have an opportunity to test your capacity to reach quick and definite DECISIONS when you finish reading this book, and are ready to begin putting into ACTION the principles which it describes.”
He goes on:”Analysis of several hundred people who had accumulated fortunes well beyond the million dollar mark, disclosed the fact that every one of them had the habit of REACHING DECISIONS PROMPTLY, and of changing these decisions SLOWLY, if, and when they were changed. People who fail to accumulate money, without exception, have the habit of reaching decisions, IF AT ALL, very slowly, and of changing these decisions quickly and often.”
What lies are you defending that prevent you from living the life of your dreams ?

Hey Oliver,
Well said. The mind is very powerful and it absorbs everything you want it to absorb. Our thoughts influence our actions. If you feed your mind with negative thoughts, well the answer is obvious – you’ll make wrong decisions and take unwise actions.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
All the best,

Great post, Oliver! It really is important to remember that we have to ultimately make a decision. It reminds me of T-shirts that I saw about 15 years ago that said, “You miss 100 percent of the shots you don’t take.” We definitely need to remember this as we look for our efforts to build toward the life we want to live.

Hi Oliver,
Powerful message today. Made me realize what happens inside the mind when a decision has to be made. What is being conquered or not, when a decision has to be made. Becoming rich or staying poor is a choice, and either way we make one, as T.Harv Eker also said, there is no in-between place where choices or decisions can be avoided.
As you said, think of the consequences when we act too late.
thanks for sharing this lesson from Think and Grow Rich,

Hi Oliver,
It’s opportune that I read this today as I have been drafting a post on the power of making decisions.
What I think is important about making decisions is that people who are decisive are not afraid of making a wrong decision.
For them there is no wrong decision. Every decision ultimately leads them down the road to where they want to be.
People who don’t make decisions don’t do so because they fear that they will make a wrong decision and that this will have consequences that will impact on them adversely. What do you think?

Hi Marcus,
thanks for your comment.
I think that I agree with you. There’s no such thing as a wrong decision. Only because we know in hindsight that we didn’t reach our goal, it doesn’t mean that we would have reached it if we had decided differently.
Glad that you got this lesson plan at the right time
Take care

“What lies are you defending that prevent you from living the life of your dreams?”
WOW, that’s a powerful question!! I will be thinking that over. In general, that is my approach to healing, to ask myself what memories are tied to the problem at hand and what did I conclude that wasn’t true? But for some reason, the realization that we not only believe the lies but our bodies, hearts and minds defend them, is really powerful.
No wonder we don’t accomplish what we say we will.
And the part about decision-making is someting else that I am aware of, at times. I can delay a decision like nobody’s business! Gotta work on that so i can be more like the millionaires

Hi Jeanine,
thanks for your comment. You are right, in most cases these lies are sit deeply also in our physical bodies. That makes it painful sometimes to heal them. But holding on to them is even more painful, is it not ?

Hi Oliver,
We can really be limited by our minds or we can be successful and happy – it really depends on how we train our minds. I never believed it until I lived it, when I changed my mindset for the better!

Hi Oliver,
I am always amazed by how you may write short lesson plans, but still convey a very powerful thought-provoking post. I paused when I read this: “At stake are our lies, our lies that we don’t have the choice, that we don’t have the freedom to decide how we want to live our lives.” This makes me think of the many people who haven’t found the master key yet to truly owning their lives.
I am glad to be in this journey with you of living the life of our design. It is a PROCESS, and we will definitely meet trials along the way. Well, about the mastery of procrastination- I know you know how thankful I am to the Slight Edge philosophy. This is what I do my best to live by now. And I am also pushing myself to really re-program my subconscious through our Mental Cleanse. I can’t ask for more, Oliver – what an exciting and challenging life we have

Hi Rowena,
the lock and the key are one and the same: It’s this lie that we don’t have the choice, give up this lie and the door will unlock. People are looking for the key everywhere, in a new job, a new company, a new spouse – whereas the key lies within ourselves.
Well, I was surprised myself that I was able to do such a short lesson plan, lol
The Slight Edge philosophy is a good means against procrastination because it makes us appreciate the little things. Thus we eventually do them.
I am grateful that we are on this journey together.
Thanks for your comment.

It simply robs us from true happiness and joy. It is so powerful, when you take control of the decisions we make every minute. So, let’s make a decision to conquer the day!
