Uploading An Audio File To A WordPress Blog

Uploading an audio file to a WordPress blog is easy if you know how, especially which plugin to choose.

I explain it to you step by step in this video tutorial:

These are the single steps you need to take:

1. Have your audio file already in mp3-format saved to your computer.

2. Then click on Add new plugins in your dashboard and search for “audio player” – it’s the one by Martin Laine

3. Install, activate and click on settings.

4. In settings, make the adjustments as shown and according to your needs and taste, especially the Default audio folder location. It has to be the suffix /wp-content/uploads after your blog’s url.

5. In your dashboard, click on Add new media and search for the file to upload on your computer (max. 8 MB)

6. Once it as uploaded, you can add detailed information and your description, then save it to your database.

7. Then go the post you want to add the mp3-file to.

8. Click on the tunes symbol at the top and click on media library.

9. Then you choose the recently uploaded audio file, very important: Click on audio player so that the audio player really shows up in the post, otherwise it’s only a link which doesn’t look very nice.

10. Then save – that’s it.

    That’s what was missing on my page. – My audio files work … but they don’t look very nice as they open on a separate page so far.

    Wonderful tutorial, Oliver. Exactly what I was looking for! Thank you for going through it. I was using the wp-audio plugin instead, which I guess works fine but I like the ‘looks’ of your plugin better. :)

    HI Oliver, it’s me again! I was just wondering what you used to actually ‘record’ as in program? I have written a book and want to provide an audio version in MP3 but my recording program can’t seem to allow me to save in that format for some reason.

    Here is my technophobe qualities coming out! :-) Sorry if it sounds like a daft questions, but I figured my daftness is safe with you! :-)

    Hi Jayne,

    I use Garage Band every Mac comes with. It converts files back and forth. Hope that helps. Don’t know what Windows user would use. Wondering why someone would use Windows anyway ;-)
