You have a millionaire mind ! Let me continue sharing with you what I learned from the “Millionaire Mind Intensive Seminar”.

In the previous posts about my lessons from the Millionaire Mind Intensive Seminar, I shared with you how I developed my financial blueprint.

Religious brainwashing plays an important role in my life because both branches of my family tree were Christians. So my interpretation or misinterpretation of their religion-related behaviour is important.

What I write here is not meant to hurt anybody’s feelings towards religion. If your feelings get hurt easily, you’d better stop reading here.

However, if your feelings get hurt easily, I’ve got a question for you: WHY is that ? Chances are there is something you should have a closer look at.

Chances are it has something got to do with your blueprint as well, not only the financial blueprint.

Of course, it’s not up to me to decide that.

When my mother’s father passed away in 1989, shortly after the funeral, my Dad said about his father-in-law, that he had been “a true Christian”.

I remember that like yesterday. I still cringe when I recall that. A true Christian…why ? Because he disinherited my mother and threatened her and her sister with loss of love ? Because he was poor and honest ? In fact, he was neither (that’s what my anger says).

My mother’s family was protestant, and so my brother and I were baptised protestant.

My Dad’s family was catholic and his mother was catholic. She wouldn’t even enter a protestant church until my younger brother was born in 1974 (I was born in 1970 and my parents got married in 1969).

My mother had recognition problems with her mother-in-law because she was the child of a refugee family and – protestant.

Eventually they “had” to marry because I was on my way.

Both grandparents were all very pious, even bigoted. That’s what kids immediately sense, don’t they ?

Later on, I learned that even my catholic grandmother was pregnant before she got married.

That’s absolutely OK, but then they shouldn’t gauge other people, should they ?

In spite of their churchyness (or because of it, that’s the question) they were dealing with money in an incredibly crappy way when it came to their legacy.

It’s not very astonishing that I left the protestant church at the age of 20 and refrained from joining any organized, official church again later in life.

I run as fast as I can when someone wants to sell me their “belief” with things I don’t want to have in my life: Negative emotions and poverty, for example.

“Church” has no monopoly in dealing with God, no monopoly in having Faith, no monopoly in dealing with the Creation.

It’s only a perceived monopoly, it’s power that is handed over to them by their followers, carefully grained into their minds by the means of fear and guilt.

I cringe when I hear any Church official say that giving is more blessed than receiving. Chances are they say that because they’re at the receiving end of the equation, I don’t know.

I cringe when people or Church officials glorify poverty and prove it by quoting the Bible.

I can tell you: You can prove anything with the Bible. And that’s OK. It only reflects that we have choice, that we have free will and that it’s up to us to decide what we want to believe. It’s up to us which beliefs support us and which hinder us. Then we have to strengthen the supporting beliefs and weaken the non-supporting beliefs.

And the Bible is misquoted on purpose: Money the root of all evil ? Read very closely, the Bible says that the love of money is the root of all evil.

I don’t even believe that because it already discredits desire for money. I say, if anything is of evil about money, it’s people who deal with it and the over-attachment to it.

Let me be completely blunt here: I consider the subconscious (!) religious feelings of guilt, pain and fear as the most prominent reasons people don’t live the lives they want and they could live easily. I can’t stress enough the word subconscious. If you chose them voluntarily, whatever they may be, God bless you.

I consider subconscious religious feelings as the most prominent part of the brainwashing because the programming sets in earlier in life than our schooling – from day one when we leave our mother’s womb.

Last thoughts about religion: Religious beliefs and Faith are completely different.

In my post “Think and grow rich – Faith – Lessons from chapter 4” I wrote:

“According to the Oxford American Dictionaries, ‘faith’ means ‘complete trust or confidence in someone or something’. ‘Belief’ means ‘an acceptance that a statement is true or that something exists.’”

Aldous Huxley puts it best in his novel “Island”:

“Give us this day our daily Faith, but deliver us, dear God, from Belief.”

For me, it means: Have Faith in God or in any other Higher spiritual intelligence you want to have Faith in, but don’t believe anything what church people say if and when it doesn’t support your Faith in God and the life you desire and you deserve. Don’t consider it as true.

You have a millionaire mind !

In the next post, I am going to end this series with The Millionaire Mind Intensive Seminar – Undo The Brainwashing To Poverty Pt. 6.

I have question for you:What “incomplete communications” with people do you have in your life ? In other words, what religious beliefs do hold you back from the living the life you want ?

You have a MILLIONAIRE MIND !

What do you think ?

I always love your reaction, so please leave me a comment down below with questions, thoughts, or feedback.

Like Collette said contentious. I however like the way you say it like you see it and it’s highly commendable.

The world needs people who are not scared of their convictions and at the same time sensitive to the feelings of others.

I have never understood religion that leads with fear and negativity and the perpetual upholding of poverty as been godly.

Thanks for telling your mind, Oliver!

  4. Hi Oliver,

I’m a Christian, was born into a Lutheran family on my mom’s side, but got baptized 6 years ago, as an adult by choice. I struggled growing up in the churches we attended because church, faith, God, and giving to me felt like it was a duty, and obligation, and “should to” kind of thing.

But as an adult I’ve looked at it much more differently. Would I turn my kids away from Christmas if they didn’t give me a gift? Would I demand that they “pay up” to come have dinner with me? Of course not. I believe that God feels the same way about us. He wants to have a relationship with us.

Church, (man) can encourage me to give, but ultimately it’s my choice to do so. I can do it out of gratitude or begrudgingly, or not at all. I truly believe that giving opens up doors of prosperity in many areas of our lives. It’s a way of thinking abundantly, that I can give this because I have faith that there is more than enough for me in this world. I can give because God’s blessed me with work, skills and talents that allow me to earn an income.

I don’t believe that God want’s us to live in poverty or to be poor. I believe that He does have a desire for us to to live in freedom, to not be controlled by our finances, and held captive by them, but to live with our focus on Him instead of on our worries.

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

If God places a desire in our hearts to have an abundant life, financially, I believe it’s a “so that” kind of a thing. “So that” we can be free to use our gifts, talents, skills, and love in a way that empowers others. “So that” we might be an inspiration to someone else to live their best life. “So that” we can we can be of service to others, to help them achieve the desires that God’s placed in their hearts.

There certainly are a lot of people (myself included) who have had situations where our views of Christianity have been tainted by the perceptions that man has placed upon us. Satin himself was master at twisting the word to make his point. I believe we need to go to the Source and look at it as it was intended.

God wouldn’t give us the desires and ability to obtain them if he didn’t want us to take that leap of faith and go for them. The doubts, fears, obstacles, and challenges in our way may be tests of faith, but I think we need to run toward our fears, knowing that there is a power greater than us, delighting in our growth and cheering us on when we push past negativity and take that next step in total faith.

Hope it’s okay to be blunt…but you asked for my reactions, right? :)

    Hi Heather,

that is an aamzing comment, worth of an entire post.

Getting baptized as an adult is a very idea, unfortunately I wasn’t able to convince my wife to allow it to our kids ;-)

Giving and receiving are equally important – receiving gives sense and meaning to giving. How can one be important than the other ? So I am a generous giver and excellent receive.

I agree that we can fulfill our desires, otherwise we wouldn’t have them. How many people think however that having a strong desire is “greedy” ? Here lies problem, because a burning desire is the starting point of all achievement, as Napoleon Hill notes. When desire gets discredited, that’s a concern.

Thanks again for being so blunt and open, love it.

  6. Ha! Oliver, you’re a hoot. I love reading your posts and was looking forward to this one.

I agree that faith is better than religiousness or churchyness! I was raised to decide on my own what I believe, my parents were very casual about believing any particular religion.

But the “religious guilt” came from my mother who was a preacher’s kid very concerned about behaving in just the right way and worried about what people think. I connected all that to what it means to be a Christian and decades went by before I really began to question what I’d learned and decided to reconsider some of what I believed.

At this point, I am comfortable with unanswered questions and progressive Christian faith. And I know I’m a good person even if I don’t sit with my hands folded nicely and my feet together on the floor.

    Another great post, Oliver!

    Hi Oliver,

Thank you! Finally, someone else other than my small little circle of friends here at home who sees this! We talk about this all the time, but it feels rather like preaching to the choir.

I certainly can’t see any correlation between maintaining poverty as a demonstration of good Faith, because a life in poverty is always occupied with trying to survive and the struggle that poverty makes of it. There’s no room to enjoy life because they’re too busy struggling just to live, worrying about food, and clothing the children, and not losing the roof over their head. There’s no time to enjoy life, and doesn’t seem to be much to thank God for.

A life of abundance, however? I think that’s much more in line with what God had intended for us, since enjoying all the bounty out there can only come when you have already taken care of your basic needs. Poverty undermines that.

    Hi Delena,

thanks for your comment. I can relate to that: Poverty and the necessity to survive somehow occupy too much space in the mind and soul, so I can’t really see how poverty could help to be more faithful (whatever that means) or spiritual. Poverty disconnects.

We are supposed to live in abundance, I can believe in that one.

  9. Oliver, wow! Thank you so much for your honesty in this post. I always admire people who can share so openly about themselves. =) You’ve inspired me to try and share more about myself this coming Tuesday!

I feel strongly about how you said that religious belief and faith are very different.

Although I didn’t grow up in a very religious household, religion murked in the background because Catholicism is part of the Filipino way of life. It’s similar here in Huancayo. People talk a lot about faith and belief, but often don’t live it.

Instead of following that route, I found my own spirituality and I think our own discoveries in where we want to place our faith can be so much stronger. =)

  10. Allie says:

    Oliver,

Sometimes I just wondering if “poverty” is the scapegoat. Poverty is used as a symbol of goodness because in poverty you can’t be greedy with your wealth. The wealthy throughout history have been shown as greedy. Greed is a sin and it is bad for any society. So the only way out of sin is through the other extreme- poverty.

Humans tend to be melodramatic, especially in cases of religion.

I studied Anthropology. And I firmly believe religion (not God or faith) was created by man to answer questions that could not be answered. And over the last 50,000 years man has turned religion into a tool. I doubt God wants that. So I turned away from organized religions and just keep a faith in God. I love your quote ““Church” has no monopoly in dealing with God”. That is perfect.

No matter how rich or poor I am, God wants me to share what I have and I will. That is to help my fellow man, not because my religion tells me to.

  11. Hi Oliver,

I will bet that this post opened up a can of worms. Religion is one of those polarizing subjects that people either care deeply about or not at all.

Well, maybe not… I am inbetween.

I am Christian and a Catholic but I believe more in my faith than an organized religion. I certainly don’t subscribe to many (most?) of the mandates of the Catholic Church, and my thought is that this is true of many Catholic followers.

I believe that my faith is my own, and that I can have my own personal relationship with my God outside the walls of a Church.

I expect others to respect this, just as I respect their right to believe in their Church and their God their own way.

I also agree that the Bible can be translated a million ways, depending on which argument you’re looking to support.

To answer your question, I don’t believe that any deep seeded religious beliefs are holding me back. I made peace with my God years ago and I’m okay with that.

He knows I am not perfect, but he knows that I live my life the best way possible, and that I usually do so trying to help others in need.

I am the best Christian I can be, my own way.

Thanks for this post Oliver… very thought provoking!

That was a very honest post Oliver! I was baptized and evangelized as a Roman Catholic and I haven’t heard any teaching from my religion teachers to hate money. What they always said was to ask for God’s blessings so that when we are blessed, we can be a blessing to others by helping them. Money is not evil but the intentions of the people who desire for it.

I believe that you can have faith in god without going to church. But faith in other human beings, that can be more challenging sometimes.

In our business, we need people to have faith in us. If not then we will not be successful.
