MLM Success With Think And Grow Rich And Oliver Tausend Pt. 4 – Auto Suggestion – The medium for influencing the subconscious mind or: What the internet and the human brain have in common

Napoleon Hill explains the term auto suggestion at the beginning of this chapter as follows:”AUTO-SUGGESTION is a term which applies to all suggestions and all selfadministered
stimuli which reach one’s mind through the five senses. Stated in another way, autosuggestion is self-suggestion. It is the agency of communication between that part of the mind where conscious thought takesplace, and that which serves as the seat of action for the subconscious mind.”

How does it work ?

Mr. Hill goes on:”Through the dominating thoughts which one permits to remain in the conscious mind, (whether these thoughts be negative or positive, is immaterial), the principle of auto-suggestion voluntarily reaches the subconscious mind and influences it with these thoughts.”

And:”Nature has so built man that he has ABSOLUTE CONTROL over the material which reaches his subconscious mind, through his five senses, although this is not meant to be construed as a statement that man always EXERCISES this control. In the great majority of instances, he does NOT exercise it, which explains why so many people go through life in poverty.”

And now, let’s see why we don’t exercise this power and how we can learn to exercise it.

You’ll learn also what the internet and the human brain have in common.

Enjoy the video.

Hi Oliver! I love your comparison between the Internet and the human brain. Also, this is a good reminder to really pay attention to our own excuses, the reasons we give ourselves for not doing something or putting it off.

Your example of the email you received was very powerful! Obviously, his reasoning made complete sense to him but not to us as we listened. I’m sure the same is true at times for us when others are listening to our excuses.

    Great post!

    Hi Jeanine,

thanks for your comment. You nail it perfectly, and your conclusion hits the nail on its head also: When we make excuses, they don’t have to make sense to others, and hopefully they’ll tell us.

Oliver, I understand your post 100%, (the message you are conveying that is).

Our internal programming is as illogical as broken links. Our denial has us thinking our excuses are valid, when they are not.

We can’t control our programming, but we can recognize it. We do have to recognize it consciously though, otherwise we allow ourselves to make excuses (lies) and will never break free.

Thanks for your analogy and thoughts.

    Hi Jayne,

thanks for your comment. It is true that our internal programming is illogical, however it has kind of its own logic, and absurd one of course and only we might understand it. So becoming aware is truly important, as you note.

    Hi Oliver,

Loved it, loved it, loved it! Your comparing the internet to our brain is brilliant. Haven’t thought of it that way before but it’s so true.

I bet there’s a few of us walking around with broken links and have no clue that those are the reasons for things not working out.

As far as the email you’ve got from your team mate …only one word comes to mind …EXCUSES.

    Thanks for another great lesson!

  4. Hi Oliver,

I love your comparison of the Internet and the human brain… there are eerie similarities, no?

I can really relate to your discussion on Rebellion and how it leads to self sabotage. As a younger man, I was so set against doing what someone wanted me to do that I missed out on some valuable opportunities in my life.

As I started my entrepreneurial career, this continued. If I sensed that someone was trying to recruit me (even softly) into their business I would do the opposite of what they said.

And it turns out that, again, I missed out of some pretty decent business opportunities. Happily, as I got older I have “mellowed” and tried to remain more open to new opportunities. But it is a process, for sure.

    I am reminded of a saying I recently heard….

“When opportunity knocks, don’t be the person shouting… Can somebody else get that?” :-)

    Thanks for sharing, Oliver!

    Hi Oliver,

Brilliant comparison between human brain and internet. Broken links – I am sure everybody has some. There is nothing wrong in having a broken liknk, but not knowing about them is not good!

On a scientific side note, we model both brain (neural networks) and internet using the same kind of mathematical equations :)

    Cheers,
    Jane.

  6. The chapter on auto-suggestion is great!! So is your lesson. People do not seem to understand how important it is to tell yourself positive things. It is very uplifting and gives you so much more confidence to achieve the things that we want out of life.

Oliver, aloha. Absolutely loved the analogy you used in this. Not only did I appreciate the big picture of the internet/brain, the way you tied back each of his comments back as broken links was masterful.

Oliver, I have to tell you that I believe there is some severely messed up circuitry in this individual. He definitely his cause and effect were simply not logical. He needs to be reprogrammed!

Since I was listening and shaking my head, you must have really been shaking yours as you read it.

So, Oliver, I am curious as to what you did with this individual. Did you call him or send him an e-mail attempting to explain his broken links or did you send a brief note to acknowledge saying “keep me posted.”

The only thing that is likely to be different by the October date, is his financial condition will have grown worse and he will have lost 6 months of moving towards a positive financial future.

Look forward to your response, Olvier. Best wishes for a teprific weekend. Aloha. Janet

    Hi Janet,

thanks for your comment. The issue is: To him, they’re purely logical a 100 %. For us that we are not in his shoes, of course it’s 100 % illogical.

I am no different. I am also caught sometimes in a dream castle of inner logic. So I love the analogy of the messed up circuitry. Aha moments sometimes are short circuits, we think we got it but all we have is a power failure.

What did I do. Nothing spectacular. First of all, if he had been supposed to learn about my interpretation, he would have run into this post. Secondly, If he’s mature for it, he will get it. If not, not. Thirdly, I wrote an email saying that I understand. Then I asked him what it does mean exactly. The answer confirms the interpretation I just shared with you. In fact, I am hoping that I am not right.

    Hi Oliver,

I love the parallels you draw between the Internet and the brain. Very clever and makes the point so clearly about our poor brain SEO.

I especially look out for those key indicator words – “because”, “if then” and “what if” in my own life as what follows these words is always an argument for my limitations.

I also keep alert for expressing what I don’t want and interrupt myself with, “Well what do I want?” which is a far more empowering approach.

The way I have become more aware of my own broken links is by seeking silence. By being mindful throughout my day I am more conscious and in the moment and then I can observe the broken links. As one observes them so they lose their power instantly.

After reading your wonderful post I know that I will always smile to myself when I do this in future as I will be thinking of the little unchain symbol on the WYSIWG editor menu when you want to unlink something in a blog post.

  9. Hi Oliver,

I like your analogy of the human brain and the internet. I never thought of the internet in that way, or the human brain for that matter. But it makes alot of sense that our brains use internal and external links to trigger memories and/or emotions.

Example: A good friend of mine passed away about 5 years ago. Whenever I hear the Kenny Chesney song “I Go Back” I think of my friend and remember some of the fun times we had together.

That is not the only song that triggers memories for me, but as an example it shows how little things can trigger a memory or emotion in us all.

Thanks for sharing Oliver and have a great day!

When we suggest ourselves to have positive thoughts, we are going to become more self confident. Our subconscious mind will accept that confidence easily.
It is interesting approach in the way you compared the human brain with internet.Memories of both can be trigerred in a simple way, only if we use the right link for it. If we have the right switch, things work out and puzzles come together.
