Chapter 9 – The sustained effort to induce faith – The eighth step toward riches
From time to time, it is critical to observe ourselves, our activities, our passivity, our results and our non-results.
One result of this self-examination is that I can announce a huge discovery and a rant about this chapter.
Let me explain what I mean in the video below.
You’ll also learn why my inofficial subtitle of this chapter is Oliver’s sustained effort to reduce faith.
Now enjoy the video and let me know what you think in the comment section below…

Really enjoying your series on Think and Grow Rich Oliver – I love this book and Hill’s teachings. Like most people I’ve had overworked – feelings of burn out experiences; but what I have realized is those feelings were very different when I was working a “regular” job vs now that I’m working for myself. Before there was depression and even occasional illness, no doubt brought on by stress … but now, no matter how tired I may be, there’s always a feeling of satisfaction, and I’m able to bounce back much quicker!

Hi Marquita,
thanks for your appreciative comment. That’s so true: There’s always a feeling of satisfaction, especially if I am able to see what I got done and not what I didn’t get done…
Take care

Hi Oliver,
I like your video and your ideas. I think it is interesting how our actions are communicating to the universe our underlying beliefs. As you said, excess saving means I have fear, excess persistence means I have no faith. The solution, as you said, of taking action, being persistent, and leaving room for attraction does make sense from a communication of beliefs perspective.

Hi John,
thanks for your comment and seconding me on the way how I processed my experiences with over-working (and over-saving)

Wow, Oliver! I can’t imagine working 60 hours/week. Like you, I like the idea of sustained effortlessness
.
LOVE the connection between overworking as a lack of faith and thus, an effort to reduce it!
Also, persistent action and space for attraction. So overwork crowds out the space we need to leave for attraction. And Ilove the universe-as-partner whom we need to tell that we are ready to receive.
Great post!

Hi Jeanine,
thanks for your comment. Good that you can’t imagine because it can become a bad habit that reduces faith, in fact.
Glad you were able to resonate with my message.
Take care

Hello Oliver!
I find this a difficult topic, because I am still in the phase of my life where I am working hard, probably too hard. I really like what you said about overworking, and how you must leave room for Attraction. Perhaps I have also been crowding it out of my life.
I feel that persistence is a double edged sword. On the one hand, it is absolutely necessary for success in anything we do. But on the other hand, sustained effort and persistence based on the wrong path can lead to staying with something too long, something that is not meant for us.
Thanks for the great video, Oliver. Have a great weekend!

@Oliver – A symptom of an unfavorable work consciousness. That struck me from the video.
@Bob – I hear you there. We can slip into working so hard, so long, that we fog our visibility of opportunity and crowd our time to allow Attraction to work its magic!

Hi Bob,
so true: Persistence is a double edged sword. It might get people to ignore danger signals that their so far winning formula doesn’t work anymore.
As I mentioned in the video, without being arrogant, I don’t have a problem with lack of persistence. I am sure you don’t have that problem either. Most people however have a problem with exactly that.
Thanks for your comment. Glad you were able to relate.
Take care

Hey Oliver,
There is no hiding the love you have for ‘Think and Grow Rich’ and you continue to remind us of the lessons in this great book.
You know Oliver, there are times when would work very hard and become very fulfilled and be so ecstatic with myself. Other times I would work as hard, and get quite disappointed cos things didnt turn out as expected.
However I have never felt ‘good’ not working when I should.
What’s funny I could work 100hrs/week if there is a need to do so. Other times 10 hrs/week. It all depends.
So I guess ‘Overworking’ is really a relative term.
But i love the ‘attracction’ part cosit makes total sense to me.
Thanks always for the insights!

Hi Tosin,
thanks for your comment. So true, I love this book, and there’s no need to hide this love
Well, a book is just a bunch of paper printed with letters. We have to dive into a book, really learn from it and share our lessons with other people – that’s what we do with our mastermind group.
Isn’t it interesting that we let our results decide whether we love certain work or not ?
And yes of course, over-working is a relative term – it starts with a feeling , for example that we might crowd out attraction.

Hi Lou,
thanks for expanding on this. It’s definitely not dull, it’s just a choice that leads to certain results while another choice leads to different results. With that being said, people choose their reality.

Hi Oliver,
I haven’t realized that it’s been a week since I last read this very ‘awe-inspiring’ piece of writing from you! You know what, this was the very topic I shared with my hubby while on our commute from the airport when he reached Singapore last week
… I also enjoyed telling him some parts of Elizabeth Gilbert’s TED talk.
You did a wonderful job of sharing with us how it’s not misconception about money which caused you financial struggles in the past years, but is in fact misconception about work. I am so amazed by the thought of being open to the Universe, and leaving that space for attraction. I have to admit that I can get so caught up with a lot of things, that I don’t even find time to meditate and truly have the quiet time for myself. Guess what, I even say my self-talk while working out on a treadmill , hehe.
I am just thankful for all the insights that you, Marcus, and Janet are always sharing about manifesting. It is definitely one body of knowledge that I am so passionate about.

Hi Rowena,
thanks for your personal and thoughtful comment and your appreciation. The issue with work was an epiphany for me although I addressed it two years ago with my coach because I had slight suspicions. The good thing is that I am absolutely clear now with money, and now comes the topic of work – everything falls into place.
I started meditating again already (guided and unguided) a while ago and a crafted a new self talk for a short-term issue I want to solve.
Well, I find it’s OK to say one’s self talk on the treadmill – because you are thinking something anyway, aren’t you ?
Hope you are well
Take care
