Blessings Of A Stay At Home Dad – Volunteering

Occasionally, I shared with you with my blessings as a stay-at-home-dad, because I am immensely grateful for them, for example:

Power Of Gratitude Pt. 9 – More Blessings Of A Home-Based Business

Power Of Gratitude Pt. 8 – Blessings Of A Home-Based Business

Network Marketing – Precious Little Moments Of A Stay At Home Dad

Power Of Gratitude – What Does Your Average Perfect Day Look Like ?

Today I have the opportunity of sharing another little episode with you.

Enjoy.

So now, I am curious, would it be OK if you did yourself a favour and downloaded our free MLM e-book “Success in 10 steps” by my good friend and mentor Michael Dlouhy ?

What is your opinion ? What are your experiences with being a stay-at-home-parent – or even more importantly, not being one ?

Would you like to do something about it ?

I always love your reaction, so please leave me a comment down below with questions, thoughts, or feedback.

And (yes, here’s my call to action) please share this post with your Twitter and Facebook friends by clicking on the share buttons below. I appreciate you telling others.

To a prosperous life,

  2. Awesome!
This is a very powerful industry that allows us to do what we want & when we want to do it! I think it’s great that you were out there volunteering! You have the time to do it – so why not?
I did the same thing back home (I recently moved). I volunteered with BBBS. That was a pretty cool experience. I plan to get back in it out here – but haven’t quite got everything situated yet.
It’s great to be free and to give back to everyone around you! :) Great video.

    Hi Oliver,

Absolutely! This business comes with great “perks” or “blessings” like you call them. Your little girls will look back someday and remember that their dad (and mom) was always there. They’ll have great memories of their childhood.

Be blessed and have a great weekend!

    Hi Oliver,

Awesome that you had the freedom to do what you wanted to do. Isn’t this really what every body wants more of really? Freedom not making a fortune is at the top of my list for why I work from home… Oh and making a fortune is on the list just not at the top. Ha ha.

    Have an wonderful weekend.

I am not a stay at home Mom, but I do volunteer at my son’s school on Fridays and for field trips. I have Fridays off and spend many of them helping my son’s teacher with crafts, computers and reading to the kids. It is very rewarding. I also love helping with the book fairs!

Oliver, aloha. Thank you for sharing your gratitude with us. It is so important for us to appreciate our blessing and to express that appreciation to others.

Oliver, aside from what being a stay at home dad does for you, imagine how you being able to do it, affects Muriel? How nice for her to have her dad as a part of her adventures.

By example, Oliver, you are breaking down paradigms and showing that “it doesn’t have to be that way” and “look, there is another way of life.” how exciting.

Looks beautiful in Germany. Enjoy a wonderful Sunday. Aloha. Janet

P.S. Do your children realize what a very different life they have from their friends because you are a stay-at-home dad? Do they ask you why you can do what you do with them while their other friends’ dads don’t?

    Hi Janet,

thanks for expanding on this because this is a very good question. First of all, I am not the only one. There are other dads as well who take the time to help, but most of them have to ask their bosses. Some don’t help even though they don’t have a real job.

Secondly, they seem to take it for granted and sometimes they would prefer doing things with their mother instead of me ;-) Muriel just recently said that I should work in an office again.

It doesn’t hurt my feelings because I know how she thinks and feels but it’s definitely interesting, is it not ? It’s a routine for children too: If Dad’s not at home, he’s working. If he’s at home, he’s not working. The line between work and not-work are blurred now, are they not ?

The question is whether she’s simply used to it because she didn’t know it differently from her first 10 years…or if it’s an evolutional programming from the stone age that men are supposed to hunt for food while women are in the cave with the breed…I don’t know.

    What do you think ?

    Take care

Oliver, aloha. Glad to hear there are other dads helping as well. That is quite a change from what it used to be when I was young. Then it would have been an “oddity” to see a dad.

Amazing how quickly we all have a tendency to take good things for “granted” rather than appreciating what we have. If you were back to your 80 hour weeks and away from home, no doubt Muriel would change her mind about wanting you to go to the office.

Maybe, Oliver, you need to put a sign on your office door that says “Office” so that you can say that you are going to the office.

Since I am not a movie person, I cannot answer this question. However, Oliver, what I am wondering is if movies or television programs typically show “dad” going off to work? If so, that model is being subtly and consistently reinforced. Stone age or not, if that what she sees repeatedly, then that will be her belief rather than reality that is her life.

For most people conformity brings comfort. The life you are creating is the exception rather than the norm. It will be interesting to see how her thoughts change as she gets older.

In terms of sometimes preferring to be with Anke rather than you, that could easily be “girl stuff” as well.

Best wishes for a great week. Aloha. Janet

    Hi Janet,

    thanks for expanding on this.

To start from the end of your comment: Of course, I don’t take it personally because it might be girl stuff, you are right on ;-) And especially Muriel spent her first years nearly exclusively with Anke. Anke said at that time that she’s a single mom. Well, we’re getting over it. And in the last few years, our relationships improved tremendously. When I shoot a video or do phone calls, I put a sign at the door. Other than that, they may come into the office. Our winter garden is adjacent to the office and there’s the piano. So sometimes I am entertained by live piano music when working. Just awesome, isn’t it ?

I don’t watch many movies either, if at all. There’s certainly subtle programming not only in TV but also in “serious” and reputated books for children. I run a video series in German where I point out how kids are conditioned through the works of so called reputated authors. The Dads are usually nice guys, no machos, but they’re working at an office and most of them struggle financially…not really, it’s the typical middle class struggle when you have a job. It’s nauseating…but they read some of these books even in school.

It’s also true that we start missing things only when they are taken away from us instead of appreciating them today. Muriel is highly interested in internet and computer stuff beyond playing and she somtimes looks over my shoulder. If Facebook allowed accounts for under 13 years old, she would have a FB account already…

Last but not least, I trust that everything is falling into place as it’s supposed to be.

    Take care

  12. Great post, Oliver! It is so great to hear about how things are working for you when you seek the freedom to make sure that you have the time for the things that are most important to you. I’m not there yet, but that is something that will definitely be great to say when I get there. Thanks for the inspiration to show us what is on the other end of the journey!

    Hi Steve,

thanks for your comment. Glad you like my little video. What I learned is that we have to behave as if we were already there. That doesn’t mean that we should already spend the money we intend to make in 10 years. But it means that we should already have the self-confidence and we can already apply the time freedom we have today.

I really wouldn’t have it any other way. Especially for those who have kids, there really is no price on these little moments which you are able to be there for, however simple.

You are simply there, in their lives.

For me there is 2 reasons responsible to work me from home:

    1. I want to remain close to my family as much as I can
